DENVER – October 29, 2026 -- Western Microsurgical, LLC (WMS), a portfolio company of HealthEdge Investment Partners, has acquired Q Surgical and Proficient Surgical, extending its surgical microscope sales and service coverage to 18 states in the western and northeastern United States. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Two regional operators add Northern California, Nevada and Northeast coverage
Q Surgical, founded in 2009, serves hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) in Northern California and Nevada. Proficient Surgical, founded in 1996, serves the Northeast. Both bring expertise in surgical microscopy and complementary operating room products, plus existing relationships with surgical teams and manufacturers.
WMS takes over Leica Microsystems contract from Shawnee Medical in two states
Separately, WMS expanded its territory through the transfer of the Leica Microsystems sales and service contract previously held by Shawnee Medical in two states. WMS operates as an independent manufacturer's representative and independent service organization (ISO) for Leica Microsystems, supporting microscopes used in spine, neurological and ophthalmic procedures.
Founders keep equity stakes and operational roles in the combined company
The owners of Q Surgical and Proficient Surgical retained meaningful ownership in the combined company and remain actively involved in operations. Their continued leadership is intended to preserve client relationships with hospitals, ASCs and surgical teams as the company grows.
WMS founder and CEO Brian Bedrick said the combination will deliver "broader equipment and service capabilities" to hospitals and ASCs. Q Surgical co-founder Will Aarsheim and Proficient Surgical founder Steven Baum both cited their continued ownership stakes as the basis for helping shape the combined company's future.
Deal advances WMS's plan for a national surgical microscopy platform
The acquisitions follow WMS's strategy of building a national platform through partnerships with experienced operators. HealthEdge, a healthcare-focused private equity firm founded in 2005, backs the company.
