Wix Faces Securities Suit After AI Costs Erase $1.1B in Market Value

San Francisco – September 10, 2026 -- Wix.com Ltd. (NASDAQ: WIX) is now the target of a securities class action following a 27% plunge in its share price after the company disclosed Q1 2026 results showing operating expenses had spiked 46% year-over-year. The case, Yappi v. Wix.com Ltd., et al., No. 26-cv-08852, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and seeks to represent investors who bought Wix securities between February 19, 2025 and May 12, 2026.

Non-GAAP operating margin collapses to 5% from 21% on AI spending surge

The complaint centers on Wix's rollout of two AI initiatives, Base44 and Wix Harmony, positioned as the company's response to "vibe coding" tools that let users build apps through plain-language AI prompts rather than traditional code. On May 13, 2026, Wix disclosed that front-loaded sales and marketing spending tied to the two products drove non-GAAP S&M expenses to $190.7 million, an 88% year-over-year increase. That spending collapsed the company's non-GAAP operating margin from 21% in the prior-year period to just 5%, while total quarterly operating expenses rose 46%.

Market erased $1.1 billion in Wix value on the disclosure date

Wix's stock fell 27% the day the figures were released, wiping out more than $1.1 billion in market capitalization and prompting analyst downgrades over margin performance. During the related earnings call, Wix management acknowledged that professional developer customers had migrated to competing AI tools, that Harmony had "holes" and "missing capabilities," and that product delivery delays had left the platform behind developer workflow needs.

Complaint alleges Wix overstated AI competitiveness while masking rising costs

The lawsuit alleges Wix made false and misleading statements about Base44 and Harmony's competitiveness and performance while understating the costs required to develop and promote them, thereby overstating their commercial and financial benefits. Investors allegedly began absorbing the truth in stages: first on May 21, 2025, when 2025 revenue guidance missed analyst expectations, then on November 19, 2025, when Q3 2025 results showed rising AI compute and marketing costs tied to the Base44 acquisition were hurting financial results. Each disclosure triggered stock selloffs before the May 13, 2026 reveal of the full cost structure shift.

Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, the shareholder rights firm behind the investigation, is examining whether Wix intentionally understated the adverse financial effects of its AI initiatives. "We're investigating whether Wix may have intentionally understated the adverse effects of its AI initiatives on its operating results," said Reed Kathrein, the Hagens Berman partner leading the inquiry. The lead plaintiff deadline in the case is September 22, 2026.
