Oakland – October 15, 2026 -- Blue Shield of California has appointed Erin Brewer, a strategic advisor and former Lyft chief financial officer, to its Board of Directors, adding more than 25 years of finance and operations experience as the nonprofit health plan pursues its affordability agenda.
Brewer led Lyft through its first full year of profitability
Brewer joined Lyft as CFO in 2023. In that role and in her current advisory capacity, she helped lead a financial transformation that included the ride-hailing company's first full year of profitability.
She oversaw global organizations covering finance, investor relations, internal audit, corporate strategy and business development. Earlier, she held leadership positions at Charles Schwab, Atlassian and McKesson Corporation.
Board adds cross-industry governance experience across healthcare, technology and financial services
Brewer's background spans finance, strategy, operations and corporate governance in healthcare, technology and financial services. Blue Shield said her experience will support efforts to modernize healthcare delivery, improve the consumer experience and advance long-term financial stewardship in service of its nonprofit mission.
Board Chair Pamela DeCoste said Brewer combines financial discipline, operational leadership and experience transforming complex organizations, and that her perspective will strengthen the Board as the insurer works to make high-quality healthcare sustainably affordable.
Appointment follows scale of nearly 6 million members and $28 billion in revenue
Blue Shield of California serves nearly 6 million members, employs more than 6,800 people and generates more than $28 billion in annual revenue. It provides health, dental, vision, Medicaid and Medicare plans in California.
Brewer holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Purdue University.
