Sweden – October 27, 2026 -- OHB Sweden AB, a subsidiary of OHB SE, and Saab have signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen their cooperation on space-based defence and security capabilities. It is one of three space-related MoUs Saab has announced as part of its expanded engagement in the sector.

MoU sets framework to test satellite contributions to European defence

The agreement creates a framework to examine how existing and future satellite systems and platforms can strengthen European security and defence capabilities. The work centres on space-based technologies for situational awareness, secure communications, connectivity and resilience across the air, land, sea, cyber and space domains.

Bremen – October 27, 2026 -- OHB, the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) and the University of Exeter have started a two-year study for the European Space Agency (ESA) to test whether current and future Earth observation systems can detect climate tipping points early.

EO4TIPP targets four tipping processes

The study, called EO4TIPP (Future Earth Observation Architecture for Monitoring Tipping Points), covers four processes: thawing permafrost, changes in the Amazon rainforest, a possible collapse of the West Antarctic ice sheet, and a collapse of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC).

The partners will identify the observation data that matter most for each process and map existing gaps in coverage. They will then draw up recommendations for future Earth observation missions and monitoring services.

ESA Taps OHB for OASIS Shared Lunar Surface Infrastructure Studies

Europe – October 27, 2026 -- The European Space Agency (ESA) has commissioned OHB System AG, a subsidiary of OHB SE, to run feasibility and preliminary design studies for OASIS (Outpost for Advanced Scientific Investigation Station), a shared infrastructure platform for long-term experiments and technology demonstrations on the lunar surface.

OHB takes prime contractor role for the OASIS concept

As prime contractor on the ongoing ESA studies, OHB is responsible for the overall concept. It is working with partners on system requirements and the preliminary design phase. The modular, expandable architecture is meant to host scientific instruments, technology demonstrators and robotic systems.
