OHB Sweden and Saab sign MoU on space-based defence

Sweden – October 27, 2026 -- OHB Sweden AB, a subsidiary of OHB SE, and Saab have signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen their cooperation on space-based defence and security capabilities. It is one of three space-related MoUs Saab has announced as part of its expanded engagement in the sector.

MoU sets framework to test satellite contributions to European defence

The agreement creates a framework to examine how existing and future satellite systems and platforms can strengthen European security and defence capabilities. The work centres on space-based technologies for situational awareness, secure communications, connectivity and resilience across the air, land, sea, cyber and space domains.

OHB pairs satellite expertise with Saab's systems integration

OHB CEO Marco Fuchs said space is now a key prerequisite for security, defence and resilience in Europe. He said combining OHB Sweden's satellite systems expertise with Saab's defence and systems integration capabilities can help strengthen sovereign European technology and defence capacity in an increasingly complex security environment.

OHB develops and operates satellite and space systems for institutional and government customers in Europe. Applications include reconnaissance, Earth observation, communications and situational picture generation.

Geopolitical tension drives demand for secure space capabilities

Growing geopolitical tension and rising reliance on space-based infrastructure are increasing European demand for secure, resilient capabilities in communications, Earth observation, navigation and early warning. Meeting that demand requires close cooperation between space and defence companies, according to the announcement.

Saab adds SSC Space and Ericsson as further MoU partners

Saab signed the other two letters of intent with SSC Space and Ericsson.
