Markham – October 14, 2026 -- Seven transit operators in Ventura County, California, now run on a single coordinated open-loop payment program built by Enghouse Transportation & Public Safety with the California Integrated Travel Project (Cal-ITP).
Riders tap existing contactless cards across all seven operators
Passengers can use the contactless credit or debit card already in their wallet on participating services. The system calculates the correct fare automatically at each tap.
The program builds on the first Enghouse open-loop payment deployment with the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC).
Regional fare capping treats the network as one transit system
Customers who transfer between participating operators receive applicable fare benefits as though the network were a single system. Cal-ITP also supports reduced fares for eligible riders across all seven operators.
Enghouse supplies fare technology while Cal-ITP provides the statewide framework
Enghouse contributes scalable fare collection technology and real-time payment processing. Cal-ITP provides the statewide framework and implementation support that make contactless payments and benefit eligibility easier for agencies to adopt.
Gillian Gillett, Chief of Data & Digital Services and California Integrated Mobility Program Manager at the California Department of Transportation, called the launch a major milestone for Cal-ITP and California public transit. She said it resulted from collaboration among vendors, transit operators and the State, and that the State hopes to see more regional projects follow.
Daniel Sjöström, Managing Director at Enghouse Transportation and Public Safety, said the milestone lays the foundation for broader adoption across the region.
Enghouse and Cal-ITP will continue to support transit agencies as they modernize fare collection and improve interoperability.
