CGI Urges Healthcare Leaders to Connect Care Ahead of 2029 EU Data Rules

Europe – October 31, 2026 -- Structured cross-border exchange of priority health information becomes a requirement in Europe from 2029 under the European Health Data Space, and IT services provider CGI is urging healthcare leaders to prioritize interoperability over adding new platforms.

CGI lists 10 actions to close the gap between digital tools and patient journeys

Healthcare organizations are investing in electronic health records, patient portals, cloud platforms, virtual care and AI. According to CGI, digital capabilities are advancing faster than connected care. Patients still repeat their medical history, while clinicians duplicate documentation and move between systems.

Sparkplug B vs Plain MQTT: Architects Weigh Shared Contract Costs

Sparkplug B vs Plain MQTT: Architects Weigh Shared Contract Costs

Global – October 30, 2026 -- Industrial architecture teams choosing between Sparkplug B and plain MQTT are really comparing the cost of maintaining a custom application contract with the cost of adopting and operating a shared one. Sparkplug B defines industrial conventions on top of MQTT. It does not replace MQTT or turn a broker into a historian.

Plain MQTT leaves naming, typing and state to the application

MQTT provides client-to-broker publish/subscribe messaging, topic names, topic filters, QoS choices, retained messages, sessions and a Last Will mechanism. The specification does not require JSON, a device model, metric names, data types or an industrial topic namespace.

Teams using plain MQTT must therefore define five things themselves:

Hot Springs – October 29, 2026 -- Verizon Frontline displayed six categories of deployable connectivity assets at the 2026 Central States Communications Exercise in Hot Springs, Arkansas, many of them powered by ST Engineering iDirect technology.

Exercise gives agencies hands-on time with communications gear

The exercise brings local, state, tribal and federal agencies and nongovernmental organizations together with technology providers. Participants test capabilities in realistic scenarios rather than watching demonstrations. They also learn from emergency communications professionals who have supported real-world incidents and look for interoperability gaps across networks, equipment and operating procedures.

Verizon Frontline fields assets from private 5G to off-road vehicles

The showcased assets were built to restore and extend connectivity during emergencies:

NEW YORK – October 29, 2026 -- Allegion US will demonstrate real-time wireless locks, Apple Wallet and Google Wallet credentials, and new property-management integrations at ISC East 2026 (booth #601), November 4–5 at the Javits Center.

Schlage XE360 switches between offline Bluetooth and real-time Wi-Fi modes

The Schlage XE360 uses an interchangeable FleX Module. Locks run offline via Bluetooth or in real-time mode via Wi-Fi. Over Wi-Fi, RealSync technology lets administrators manage access remotely, push instant credential updates and receive immediate security alerts. Allegion says this avoids the cost and complexity of traditional hardwired systems.

Two Virginia Counties Go Live on Shared Caliber Hosted CAD

Two Virginia Counties Go Live on Shared Caliber Hosted CAD

North Little Rock – October 17, 2026 -- Highland County and Bath County, Virginia, went live on Caliber Hosted CAD on October 6 in a shared hosted environment, putting two neighboring rural dispatch centers on one platform across more than 900 square miles of mountainous terrain, Caliber Public Safety announced.

Each county keeps its own dispatch operation, configuration, workflows and local control. Both run on the same underlying platform, which removes the technical barriers that normally separate CAD systems in adjacent jurisdictions.

Shared tenant targets cross-county incidents in a sparsely staffed region

Highland County covers roughly 416 square miles and has about 2,300 residents. Bath County covers more than 500 square miles and has about 4,100 residents. Both are largely forested and mountainous, with few dispatchers and responders on any shift, and mutual aid is routine.

Markham – October 15, 2026 -- Seven transit operators in Ventura County, California, now run on a single coordinated open-loop payment program built by Enghouse Transportation & Public Safety with the California Integrated Travel Project (Cal-ITP).

Riders tap existing contactless cards across all seven operators

Passengers can use the contactless credit or debit card already in their wallet on participating services. The system calculates the correct fare automatically at each tap.

The program builds on the first Enghouse open-loop payment deployment with the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC).

Regional fare capping treats the network as one transit system

Customers who transfer between participating operators receive applicable fare benefits as though the network were a single system. Cal-ITP also supports reduced fares for eligible riders across all seven operators.

Leidos Tests Three Air-Defense Systems in Army's Reveille Forge

Reston – October 13, 2026 -- Leidos has completed Jailbreak Sprint 1.5 at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, bringing its ALPS surveillance system into the U.S. Army's new Reveille Forge integration and testing environment, following three Leidos systems tested at the first sprint in June.

Reveille Forge follows the Army's Operation Jailbreak exercise held earlier this year. It is intended to surface system interoperability problems earlier in development, before technologies reach soldiers in the field.

Reveille Forge replaces periodic events with a persistent integration model

The Army designed the environment to move integration from periodic events to a persistent "integrate-first" approach. Government, industry and academia can test earlier how technologies work together.

Fulcra Dynamics Launches Cross-Platform AI Agent Communication

Boston – – September 23, 2026 -- Fulcra Dynamics has launched universal agent-to-agent communication that lets users on Claude, ChatGPT, Hermes and OpenClaw coordinate tasks directly, bypassing the closed multiplayer model built by rival app Instinct.

Fulcra opens agent communication across any AI harness, ending platform lock-in

Instinct's multiplayer feature currently limits agent-to-agent communication to users who adopt its own agent. Fulcra Dynamics said this approach creates unnecessary lock-in and security risk, and built its system instead as a neutral backend that any compatible agent harness can plug into for peer and group coordination.
