Frax Becomes First Crypto Firm With ICANN Top-Level Domain Bid

Las Vegas – October 07, 2026 -- Frax has become the first crypto company to have an ICANN top-level domain application revealed, with .frax published under the 2026 New Generic Top-Level Domains Program. If delegated, .frax would function as a globally recognized internet domain alongside .com and .org.

.frax Would Link Blockchain-Based Naming With the Global DNS

Frax intends .frax to be the first end-to-end top-level domain connecting the traditional internet with onchain infrastructure. Users would register and manage .frax domains through Frax Name Service (FNS) on Frax's blockchain network, Fraxtal, while those domains continue to resolve through the standard global Domain Name System.

FNS Registrations Would Permanently Burn FRAX Tokens

Every FNS registration feeds into the Frax Burn Engine, permanently removing FRAX from circulation. The mechanism ties growth in .frax domain usage directly to scarcity in the ecosystem's native digital commodity.

Kazemian Frames Domains as Future Financial Endpoints

"Crypto naming systems made internet identity ownable. ICANN domains made it universally reachable. .frax brings those two worlds together," said Sam Kazemian, Founder of Frax. He added that domains could evolve into programmable financial endpoints for individuals, businesses, applications, and AI agents.

Frax Targets Machine-to-Machine Payments Through x402 Support

Frax plans to explore agentic and machine-payment functionality for .frax domains, including compatibility with emerging standards such as x402. The feature set would let websites, applications, and autonomous software agents identify counterparties, access services, and initiate stablecoin payments programmatically.

The initiative extends Frax's existing financial network built around frxUSD and FraxNet, a platform connecting financial institutions, fintechs, and companies through a shared digital-money and payments layer. Each new FraxNet participant expands the reach and utility of frxUSD.

The .frax application was filed with support from MarkMonitor, an ICANN-accredited corporate domain registrar.
