Infomaniak Launches Swiss S3 Object Storage With 10 TB Free Egress

Geneva – November 05, 2026 -- Infomaniak has launched an S3-compatible object storage service in its Swiss sovereign public cloud. It contractually guarantees 99.99% availability when customers enable automatic replication to a second Swiss data center. Without the replica, the guaranteed availability is 99.9%.

Infomaniak bills storage hourly and includes 10 TB of monthly outbound traffic

Customers pay only for the storage they use, by the hour and without contract commitments. Queries are not charged, and 10 TB of outbound data traffic per month is included. Data copied to the second data center is billed as storage. For testing, Infomaniak offers a CHF 300 or EUR 300 public cloud credit valid for three months.

Object Lock lets customers freeze files against changes or deletion

Customers can lock files for a self-selected period during which nobody can modify or delete them. The service can also keep earlier file versions so an older state can be restored. Infomaniak positions both features as added protection against ransomware that encrypts or deletes backups before demanding payment. It adds that AI accelerates the discovery of software vulnerabilities, which raises the stakes.

Files are encrypted at rest and in transit, and customers can use their own keys. Data is spread across several independent zones, so the remaining zones take over if one is hit by an incident. Infomaniak holds ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certifications.

S3 compatibility allows migration without rewriting applications

Companies can move data from another provider without rewriting applications, and can pull it back out the same way. Teams keep working with tools such as AWS CLI, rclone and s3cmd. Buckets, access rights and files can also be managed through a web interface without the command line.

Ceph technology already carries SwissTransfer's 8 million monthly transfers

The service runs on Ceph, an open-source storage technology Infomaniak already operates at scale. SwissTransfer, its free file-transfer service available across Europe, recorded 8 million transfers per month as of the end of June 2026. Swiss Backup, also built on Ceph, can secure more than 1,000 TB per customer. Olivier Chaze, Team Lead Storage, said Infomaniak develops the technology itself and does not depend on a software vendor.

Object storage completes a public cloud built on OpenStack since 2012

The new service joins virtual servers and their drives, DDoS-protected networks, managed Kubernetes clusters, databases and a DNS service. The platform runs on OpenStack, which Infomaniak has used since 2012. For AI workloads, GPUs up to NVIDIA B300 and H200 are available. Open-source models hosted in Switzerland, including Apertus, are accessible through AI Services, an OpenAI-compatible API.

Swiss law and foundation ownership anchor the sovereignty pitch

Data stored with Infomaniak falls under Swiss law, with no intermediary providers subject to extraterritorial legislation. The service meets GDPR and Swiss data protection requirements, and personal data can flow as freely as within the European Union, which recognizes Swiss data protection as equivalent. The Infomaniak Foundation, recognized as non-profit, holds the majority of voting rights in the company.

CEO Marc Oehler noted that more than every second company in the EU already buys cloud services, and that buyers should ask who will control their provider in ten years.

Infomaniak's newest Geneva data center, which won the Green Business Award 2026, is designed to feed all its waste heat into the district heating network. At full load, it is expected to avoid about 3,600 tonnes of CO2 per year compared with natural gas heating. The company is certified to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001.
