Midea Completes Control Acquisition of Italy's Esaote

Genoa – – October 09, 2026 -- Midea Group has completed the acquisition of a controlling stake in Esaote S.p.A., the Italian medical imaging maker that posted fiscal 2025 revenues of EUR 267 million, 70% of them from international markets.

Esaote joins Midea Healthcare as an independent company

Esaote becomes part of Midea's Healthcare Division but will continue to operate as an independent global medical equipment company. It stays headquartered in Genoa, with R&D and manufacturing facilities in Italy and the Netherlands. Franco Fontana remains CEO, confirmed by the new shareholders.

Midea's DR, MRI, CT and DSA lines meet Esaote's ultrasound and open MRI strengths

Midea's portfolio covers DR, high-field MRI, CT and DSA. Esaote contributes premium-brand strengths in ultrasound, open and dedicated MRI systems and medical IT solutions. Esaote ranks among the top ten global manufacturers of ultrasound and of open and dedicated MRI.

Midea Group reported global revenue of about USD 64.3 billion in 2025. Its leadership describes the deal as a step in its healthcare strategy, aimed at a more diversified imaging offering and broader access to advanced diagnostics in international markets.

Midea pledges targeted investment in R&D, operations and manufacturing

Midea plans targeted investments in Esaote's R&D, operations and manufacturing capabilities. Esaote already invests about 12% of annual revenues in R&D, and 20% of its roughly 1,160 employees work in that area. The company is present in over 100 countries through subsidiaries and a sales network.

Esaote expects access to a broader technology ecosystem and a larger innovation platform to shorten product development and innovation cycles. It also plans to explore new applications and market segments. Jinlei Chen, President of Midea Healthcare Division, called the deal a strategic fit and said the combination should extend Esaote's global reach.

The source does not disclose the transaction value or the size of the stake acquired.
