Midea Pushes R290 Refrigerant Leadership, Unveils VitaBreeze at IFA 2026

Berlin – September 15, 2026 -- Midea has sold more than 10 million R290-based air conditioning units globally since 2018, cutting an estimated 5.2 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent, the company announced at IFA 2026 in Berlin.

Midea claims 16 straight years as the world's top producer of R290-refrigerant air conditioners

The natural refrigerant carries near-zero global warming potential, contains no PFAS compounds, and delivers roughly 10% higher energy efficiency than conventional alternatives, according to the company. Midea says the carbon reduction achieved through R290 unit sales matches the absorption capacity of 6.2 million hectares of Amazon rainforest.

H-Pack indoor heat pump eliminates outdoor units for European homeowners

Developed by Midea's European R&D team, the H-Pack is designed exclusively for indoor installation, removing constraints tied to outdoor noise, space, and building restrictions. The unit supports remote diagnostics to cut service visits and offers both hybrid and fully electric heating modes.

Midea also showcased PortaSplit, an easy-install split system already recognized for quiet operation, which will transition to R290 refrigerant in 2027.

VitaBreeze wins IFA 2026 Technology Innovation Award for airflow control

Ralph Kobsik, CEO of Midea Europe GmbH, accepted the award during the fair. VitaBreeze uses "AirGrid" technology to map room layouts and enable smartphone-based airflow visualization, with presence detection allowing airflow to track or avoid occupants. The unit's Breezeless Pro function extends airflow coverage by 30% while maintaining draft-free cooling without reduced output. Additional features include "ClimaBalance" humidity control and an ECOMASTER 2.0 system with predictive energy optimization.

Raynor Pro heating system holds 100% output at -25°C, targets Nordic climates

The flagship heating unit operates in temperatures as low as -40°C and achieves A+++ energy efficiency ratings for both heating and cooling. Raynor Pro, designed by Midea's Milan design team, also received an iF Design Award.

MHELIOS energy platform complies with Germany's EnWG Section 14a grid rules

The home energy management system integrates EV chargers, heat pumps, solar arrays, and battery storage, optimizing consumption based on dynamic electricity pricing to reduce costs and support grid stability.
