Midea Touts 10M+ R290 AC Sales, Unveils VitaBreeze Award Winner at IFA 2026

Berlin – September 15, 2026 -- Midea has sold more than 10 million R290 air conditioners globally since 2018, cutting carbon emissions by an estimated 5.2 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent, the company disclosed at IFA 2026 in Berlin.

Midea claims 16 straight years as the world's leading manufacturer of R290-based air conditioners

The natural refrigerant carries an ultra-low global warming potential, near-zero CO2 emissions, no harmful PFAS substances, and roughly 10% higher energy efficiency than conventional alternatives. Midea says the emissions reduction achieved through its R290 unit sales matches the carbon absorption capacity of 6.2 million hectares of Amazon rainforest. At its stand, the company displayed a transparent model demonstrating internal system operation to visitors.

H-Pack indoor heat pump eliminates outdoor units for space-constrained installations

Developed by Midea's European R&D team, H-Pack removes the need for an outdoor unit, addressing noise, installation space and building restriction challenges common in European housing stock. Remote diagnostics allow technicians to identify and resolve issues without site visits, reducing service costs. The system supports both hybrid and fully electric heating modes.

Midea also showed PortaSplit, a split air conditioning unit aimed at simplifying installation for residential users; the product is scheduled to adopt the R290 refrigerant in 2027.

VitaBreeze wins IFA 2026 Technology Innovation Award for intelligent airflow management

Ralph Kobsik, General Manager of Midea Europe GmbH, accepted the award during the show. VitaBreeze's "AirGrid" feature maps room layouts and enables visual airflow control via smartphone, using presence detection to track or avoid occupants based on individual preference. The unit's Breezeless Pro technology expands airflow coverage by 30%, delivering draft-free cooling without compromising output. Additional functions include humidity control via "ClimaBalance" and predictive energy optimization through ECOMASTER 2.0.

Raynor Pro heating system operates at temperatures as low as -40°C

Designed for Scandinavian climates, Raynor Pro maintains 100% heating capacity at -25°C and achieves A+++ energy efficiency ratings for both heating and cooling. The product, styled by Midea's Milan-based design team, won an iF Design Award.

MHELIOS home energy platform complies with Germany's EnWG Section 14a grid regulation

The system optimizes energy storage and consumption based on dynamic electricity pricing to reduce costs and support grid stability. MHELIOS integrates EV chargers, heat pumps, solar systems and battery storage into a single management layer aimed at maximizing clean energy use while maintaining household comfort.
