Midea Touts R290 Leadership, Unveils VitaBreeze at IFA 2026

Berlin – September 15, 2026 -- Midea has sold more than 10 million R290 air conditioners worldwide since 2018, cutting an estimated 5.2 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions, the company said at IFA 2026 in Berlin.

Midea marks 16 years as world's leading producer of R290 natural-refrigerant air conditioners

The company presented its latest lineup of HVAC and energy-management solutions under its 'Green Vision, Cloudless Future' initiative. R290 carries an ultra-low global warming potential, near-zero CO2 emissions, no PFAS substances, and roughly 10% higher energy efficiency than conventional refrigerants, according to Midea. The 5.2 million tCO2e reduction is comparable to the carbon absorption of 6.2 million hectares of Amazon rainforest, the company stated.

H-Pack indoor heat pump eliminates outdoor unit requirement for European installations

Developed by Midea's European R&D team, the H-Pack is designed for indoor-only installation, removing constraints tied to outdoor noise, space, and construction permits. Remote diagnostics allow technicians to identify and resolve issues without on-site visits, reducing service costs. The system supports both hybrid and all-electric heating modes for European households.

Midea also showcased PortaSplit, a portable split unit built for easy setup, high output, and low noise, avoiding costly installation procedures. The product is scheduled to adopt R290 refrigerant in 2027.

VitaBreeze wins IFA 2026 Technology Innovation Award for airflow management

Ralph Kobsik, CEO of Midea Europe GmbH, accepted the award during IFA 2026. VitaBreeze's AirGrid feature maps room layouts and enables smartphone-based airflow visualization, while presence detection lets airflow follow or avoid occupants based on preference. The unit's Breezeless Pro technology extends airflow coverage by 30% without reducing output. Additional features include ClimaBalance humidity control and ECOMASTER 2.0 predictive energy optimization.

Raynor Pro heating system maintains full capacity at -25°C, wins iF Design Award

Raynor Pro operates in temperatures as low as -40°C and sustains 100% thermal output at -25°C, achieving A+++ energy efficiency ratings for both heating and cooling. The product's design, developed by Midea's Milan-based design team, earned an iF Design Award.

MHELIOS integrates EV chargers, heat pumps, and solar systems under Germany's Section 14a EnWG

MHELIOS, Midea's home energy management solution, optimizes energy storage and consumption based on dynamic electricity pricing to lower costs and maintain grid stability. The system combines EV chargers, heat pumps, solar panels, and battery storage, aligning with Germany's Section 14a EnWG regulation for grid-compatible controllable consumption devices.
