Recurrent Energy Sells 800 MWh French BESS Portfolio to BW ESS

KITCHENER – October 29, 2026 -- Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar (NASDAQ: CSIQ), has sold two standalone battery energy storage projects in France with combined capacity of 200 MW / 800 MWh to BW ESS, a global energy storage owner-operator. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Two 100 MW / 400 MWh projects anchor BW ESS's first French position

The portfolio comprises Baixas in the Pyrénées-Orientales department and Coquainvilliers in Calvados, each rated at 100 MW / 400 MWh. Both have transmission-level grid connections and were developed around very limited expected network constraints.

The deal is the first transaction between the two companies and marks BW ESS's entry into the French energy market.

Recurrent Energy keeps development control through remaining milestones

Recurrent Energy originated both projects, securing land, advancing grid connection and managing permitting and local stakeholder engagement. It will continue to lead them through the remaining development phase.

Once those milestones are met, BW ESS will lead construction and take the assets into commercial operation. BW ESS intends to own and operate them long term.

BW ESS targets a larger French portfolio from its 200 MW / 800 MWh base

BW ESS CEO and Co-Founder Erik Strømsø called France "a natural next step in the expansion of our global energy storage platform" and described the acquisition as a foundation for a sizeable French portfolio. He argued that France's nuclear base is increasingly paired with weather-sensitive demand and an evolving generation mix, which raises the need for rapid-response flexibility. In his view, batteries can balance the system and absorb surplus power.

Recurrent Energy CEO Dylan Marx said the sale shows the company can create value by delivering BESS projects while staying involved through to commercial operation. He described the transaction as evidence of the BESS platform Recurrent Energy has built in France and its ability to keep scaling it.

BW ESS operates in seven markets with about 12 GWh under or pre-construction

BW ESS is active in the UK, Australia, Italy, Germany, Spain, Sweden and now France. It reports more than 540 MWh of operating BESS capacity, about 12 GWh under or pre-construction and a development pipeline of several gigawatts.

Canadian Solar reported a contracted energy storage backlog of $3.5 billion at its e-STORAGE business as of June 30, 2026.
