Council Bluffs – October 12, 2026 -- Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy, LLC (SIRE), a farmer-owned ethanol producer, has acquired GreenAmerica Biofuels Ord LLC, lifting its combined capacity to approximately 230 million gallons of ethanol per year across two plants in Iowa and Nebraska.

The seller is Pilot Travel Centers LLC, which owned GreenAmerica Biofuels Ord LLC as a subsidiary. The target operates an approximately 70 million-gallon-per-year ethanol plant in Ord, Nebraska. The transaction closed October 9, 2026. Financial terms have not been disclosed and remain confidential.

SIRE adds a second corn origination region in central Nebraska

The Ord facility sits in central Nebraska's corn belt. SIRE says this gives it a second origination region, added scale in marketing ethanol, distillers grains and corn oil, and greater operational diversity across its asset base. Its existing Council Bluffs dry mill has a capacity of approximately 160 million gallons per year.

Deal follows SIRE's stated growth strategy of buying proven assets

SIRE describes the purchase as a direct step in a strategy to expand its production base, strengthen its scale and create new opportunities for value-added agriculture. It targets assets with strong operating track records, reliable feedstock supply and access to diverse markets.

SIRE President and CEO Eric Fobes said the company's approach is to grow by investing in Council Bluffs and acquiring quality assets, and that the Ord plant meets that standard as a well-maintained facility with an experienced team.

SIRE will retain Ord workforce and keep buying grain locally

SIRE plans to keep the plant's workforce and continue local grain purchasing, preserving the facility's role as a key market for area farmers.

SIRE was advised by Omaha-based law firm McGrath North Mullin & Kratz PC LLO. The company cited commodity price volatility and the integration of the acquired operations among the risks that could cause actual results to differ from expectations.
