Reston, VA – October 27, 2026 -- SpiderOak, a zero-trust cybersecurity provider for space and mission-critical edge operations, has appointed SUSE Chief Technology and Product Officer Thomas Di Giacomo to its Board of Advisors to speed commercial adoption of its platform in embedded systems.
Di Giacomo to guide open-source strategy for embedded compute at scale
Di Giacomo will advise on applying open-source technologies and operating systems to compute at scale. His focus is accelerating commercial adoption and deployment in embedded environments. SpiderOak CEO Dave Pearah said Di Giacomo's record of driving large-scale adoption of open-source infrastructure software will be instrumental as the company expands its zero-trust platform commercially.
Di Giacomo has more than two decades of experience in open source, operating systems and embedded systems strategy.
SUSE executive oversees four product lines and the CTO office
At SUSE, Di Giacomo leads the Office of the CTO, product, solution and engineering. His portfolio covers SUSE Linux Suite, SUSE Rancher, SUSE AI Suite and SUSE Edge Suite, and he helps shape the company's long-term innovation roadmap. He previously held leadership roles at Swisscom and other major organizations, holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Geneva and is based in Switzerland.
SpiderOak extends defense-grade zero-trust architecture to commercial edge
SpiderOak's platform applies zero-trust principles across space and edge systems, enforcing authentication, authorization and encryption for every data interaction, including in degraded or denied environments. Collaboration with U.S. defense and commercial space partners has advanced secure communications architectures, particularly in highly distributed networks such as the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA).
Di Giacomo said organizations moving toward decentralized infrastructure need security for complex, distributed environments, and that he will support SpiderOak's push into commercial markets.
