ACER: Dynamic Pricing Could Have Cut EU Power Bills 20% in 2025

Europe – October 31, 2026 -- Switching to dynamic pricing and shifting consumption to cheaper periods could have saved EU households an average of 20%, or about €120, on electricity bills in 2025, according to ACER analysis in its 2026 Monitoring Report on retail energy markets.

Household bills stay elevated after the 2022 crisis

Retail prices rose sharply after the 2022 energy crisis and have not eased. In 2025, EU households spent an average of €840 on electricity and €1,170 on gas. Electricity spending ranges from 1.2% to 3.9% of national median income across the EU, depending on prices, consumption and household income.

Electricity-to-gas price gap blunts the case for electrification

Electricity remains relatively expensive compared with gas, which discourages households from switching to electric technologies. Network charges, taxes and upfront costs often widen the gap further.

Industrial Silver Demand Falls 3% as Solar Thrifting Bites

Industrial Silver Demand Falls 3% as Solar Thrifting Bites

Global – October 31, 2026 -- Industrial fabrication consumed 657.4 million ounces of silver in 2025, down 3% from the 2024 record of 680.5 million ounces, according to the World Silver Survey 2026. Metals Focus forecasts a further decline of roughly 3% in 2026, to 639.6 million ounces.

Industrial use remains the largest broad component of silver demand. It accounted for well over half of the approximately 1.13 billion ounces of total demand in 2025, so shifts in industrial consumption can alter the wider supply-demand balance.

Solar thrifting drives the decline as installations keep growing

Photovoltaic demand reached a record 197.6 million ounces in 2024, about 29% of industrial silver demand, up from roughly 11% a decade earlier. The World Silver Survey 2026 attributes much of the 2025 reversal to changing silver use within solar manufacturing, not to weakness in electrification or electronics.

ACER Clears Irish Gas Tariffs but Flags Corrib Linkline Gap

ACER Clears Irish Gas Tariffs but Flags Corrib Linkline Gap

Ireland – October 31, 2026 -- The EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) has found Ireland's proposed gas transmission reference price methodology largely compliant with the EU Network Code on Harmonised Transmission Tariff Structures (NC TAR), but says the treatment of the Corrib Linkline fails the criteria for non-transmission tariffs.

ACER confirms compliance on six core EU tariff requirements

The agency concluded that the methodology proposed by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) meets the requirements on cost-reflectivity, transparency, avoidance of cross-subsidisation, non-discrimination, volume risk and prevention of cross-border trade distortions. The criteria for setting the flow-based charge are also met.

ACER opens consultation on EU-Flex electricity flexibility model

ACER opens consultation on EU-Flex electricity flexibility model

Europe – October 31, 2026 -- The EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) will open a public consultation on 5 November 2026 on the preliminary version of EU-Flex, an open-source electricity market model built to assess flexibility needs across the EU. The consultation will run until 17 December 2026.

ACER must estimate EU flexibility needs under the 2024 market design reform

The 2024 Electricity Market Design reform tasks ACER with estimating flexibility needs across the EU and identifying potential gaps. Flexibility is the power system's ability to respond to changes in supply and demand. ACER plans to publish its first assessment in July 2027, with EU-Flex supporting the process.

Preliminary release includes source code, test case data and methodology

Falcon Capital Takes Strategic Stake in London's Pont Capital

ABU DHABI – October 30, 2026 -- Falcon Capital Investments Limited, part of the Falcon Family Office Group, is investing in Pont Capital and will become a strategic shareholder in the London-based energy and natural resources investor.

Pont Capital invests across four energy and resource segments

Pont Capital allocates capital across private and public markets in traditional energy, low-carbon power, sustainable infrastructure and critical minerals. The announcement gave no stake size or transaction value.

Falcon Capital cites electrification, data centres and mineral scarcity as demand drivers

Falcon Capital describes the sector as entering a new supercycle. It points to rising power demand from electrification and the growth of data centres, a renewed premium on energy security, and tightening supply of critical minerals. These pressures, it says, are set to redirect global capital for decades.

GET H2 Partners Issue 7-Point Plan to Unblock German Hydrogen Ramp-Up

Münster – October 30, 2026 -- The partners of the GET H2 initiative have published a seven-point paper setting out measures to remove the bottlenecks slowing Germany's hydrogen ramp-up, supplementing the impulse paper the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) released on October 20.

The partners welcome the ministry's renewed focus on hydrogen and say the direction is right. Their paper adds practical detail to the proposed measures. It stresses the urgency of pending regulation, in particular the still-outstanding transposition of the EU Internal Market Directive for gas and hydrogen through an amendment of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG).

Mercuria Commits $4M to Energy Corps, Funds Five Access Projects

Pittsburgh – October 30, 2026 -- Mercuria Energy Group has committed $4 million over four years to nonprofit Energy Corps, funding five energy access projects in Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Panama and Zambia in 2026.

The partnership gives Energy Corps four years of stable funding to expand its grantmaking and to compare projects across different settings. Mercuria Chief Investment Officer Brian Falik said the company is applying its capital and market expertise to projects meant to expand reliable energy access and the economic opportunity that follows.

DETROIT – October 29, 2026 -- DTE Energy has put its 132-megawatt Fish Creek Solar Park near Sheridan, Michigan, into operation. The $268 million project was fully funded by customers who voluntarily participate in the utility's MIGreenPower program.

MIGreenPower customers fund the full $268 million build

DTE says the voluntary program adds generation capacity without raising costs for other customers. The park can produce enough energy to power approximately 30,000 homes.

Matt Paul, president and chief operating officer of DTE Electric, said new generation such as Fish Creek is part of how the utility keeps the lights on while holding bills as affordable as possible.

Munich/Tokyo – October 29, 2026 -- Proxima Fusion and Japan's Fujikura signed a memorandum of understanding to explore industrial-scale production of high-temperature superconductor (HTS) tape in Germany, anchored by planned demand of 60,000 kilometers from Proxima's own fusion projects. The MoU was signed in Tokyo in the presence of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

The production site is planned for Lower Saxony. The plant is meant to close a central gap in Europe's fusion supply chain, since HTS tape is currently made mostly outside Europe.
