Nonprofits Shift From Donor Acquisition to Lifetime Value

United States – – October 27, 2026 -- Nonprofits are moving investment away from maximizing donor acquisition and toward maximizing donor lifetime value, according to a summary of seven macro-trends presented at The Bridge Conference.

Shrinking donor files push spending toward retention and sustainer programs

Donor files continue to shrink. Organizations are putting more money into retention, second-gift conversion, sustainer programs and lifetime value. Rebuilding the pipeline of everyday donors is essential to sustain future mid-level, major and planned giving programs.

First-party data and predictive modeling replace volume-driven testing

Organizations are investing more in first-party data, predictive modeling, segmentation and audience intelligence. Testing is turning more strategic, with fewer experiments aimed at understanding donor behavior.

SMT Corp Leads Counterfeit Risk Talks at BSI Defence Workshop

MILTON KEYNES – October 27, 2026 -- Three SMT Corp executives presented at the Counterfeit Awareness & Trusted Supply Chains Workshop, held at BSI's headquarters on September 24, 2026, where aerospace and defence professionals examined counterfeit risk across multi-tier supply chains.

SMT Corp President Mike Schwarm, Vice President of Business Development and Marketing Mark Broadhead, and Vice President of Technology Dr. Nicholas Williams covered supply chain assurance, real-world counterfeit cases, and component authentication and testing.

Counterfeit controls weaken as components pass through multiple supplier tiers

Avoidance requirements become harder to manage with each additional tier. Clear contractual requirements, supplier oversight and supporting evidence keep visibility intact beyond immediate suppliers.

Only 6% of Firms Scale AI; Healthcare Pilots Stall on Architecture

GLOBAL – October 27, 2026 -- Only about 6% of organizations have scaled AI to meaningful financial impact, leaving 94% stuck between experimentation and abandonment, according to McKinsey's 2024 State of AI survey cited by IntelePeer in a new healthcare analysis.

The vendor calls the gap "Pilot Purgatory": an AI voice agent handles a scheduling demo flawlessly, a pilot is approved, and within six months it is shelved. IntelePeer argues the fix is architecture rather than a better algorithm.

Human review of every AI action turns automation into overhead

Greater AI autonomy demands more evidence of safe, predictable behavior, a tension IntelePeer labels the Trust Paradox. It is most acute in regulated healthcare, where wrong actions can be non-compliant or financially damaging. Requiring a human to audit every output creates what the company calls "digital overhead", a costlier version of the existing process.

MADD Summit Pulls 80 Leaders to Tackle Falling DUI Enforcement

Hurst, Texas – October 27, 2026 -- Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) convened 80 traffic safety leaders from 38 jurisdictions on November 17–19, 2025, to address declining DUI enforcement capacity across the United States.

Attendees included state police agencies, sheriff's offices, municipal police departments, prosecutors' offices and highway safety organizations. MADD ran the National Law Enforcement Leadership Summit on Impaired Driving as a working session rather than a traditional conference.

Four pressures are eroding DUI enforcement effectiveness

Participants said proactive traffic stops have fallen steadily since the COVID-19 pandemic, cutting officer visibility and deterrence. Staffing shortages and accelerated hiring cycles have left departments with newer officers who have limited experience with complex DUI and drug-impaired investigations.

WaitWell Guide Flags Nemo-Q Tier Gaps for Public Agencies

McKinney, Texas – October 27, 2026 -- SMS alerts, appointment scheduling, multi-language service and skill-based routing all sit above Nemo-Q's $290-per-month Essentials plan, according to a WaitWell comparison of 10 queue management alternatives. WaitWell published the guide on its own site and discloses a commercial interest in its conclusions.

Entry plan caps at one location and ten workstations

Essentials includes unlimited users, visitors and service queues, plus digital signage, real-time reporting and automated workflows. Notifications are email only. A three-branch county office or a university one-stop running fifteen advising desks exceeds the plan ceiling immediately.

Enterprises Weigh Sovereign LLMs as EU AI Act Deadline Nears

Europe – October 27, 2026 -- Self-hosted LLM infrastructure tends to become the cheaper option above roughly 50 million tokens processed per day, while commercial APIs usually stay more economical below 5 million, according to AppsTek's analysis of when enterprises need a sovereign LLM. The figures are illustrative and should be checked against current provider pricing and actual workload patterns.

AppsTek's third piece in its sovereign AI series argues that the model layer is now a governance decision, not only a technology choice, as generative AI moves into regulated, revenue-bearing workflows.

PlayPower, BCI Burke Scrap Merger After FTC Sues to Block Deal

HUNTERSVILLE – October 27, 2026 -- PlayPower and BCI Burke terminated their merger agreement, abandoning a deal announced on February 13, 2026, one week after the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and certain states sued to block it.

The FTC and the states filed the lawsuit on October 19, 2026. They sought a permanent injunction against the acquisition.

PlayPower says litigation costs outweigh the deal's value

PlayPower CEO Bryan Yeazel said the time and expense of protracted litigation are better spent on the two companies' separate businesses. He said PlayPower believes the combination would have protected American jobs and benefited families, workers and communities. He added that the company was confident it would have prevailed in court.

EU Regulators Name DORA, AI and Securitisation 2027 Priorities

EU – October 27, 2026 -- The Joint Committee of the European Supervisory Authorities (EBA, EIOPA and ESMA) has published its Annual Work Programme for 2027. It lists digital operational resilience, technological innovation, sustainable finance, securitisation and cross-sectoral risk monitoring as the five key priorities for the EU financial sector.

ESAs continue DORA oversight of critical ICT third-party providers

Under the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), the three authorities will continue oversight of critical ICT third-party service providers. They will also work to strengthen the financial sector's preparedness against cyber threats. Financial institutions that depend on external technology vendors remain within the supervisory scope.

ESMA: EEA Regulators Imposed 950+ Sanctions, €82M in Fines in 2025

European Union – October 27, 2026 -- National authorities across the European Economic Area (EEA) imposed more than 950 administrative sanctions and measures in 2025, with administrative fines totaling almost €82 million, according to the third Sanctions Report from the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).

The number of sanctions and measures was stable compared with the past two years. The report also records an increased use of settlements.

Market abuse and MiFID breaches dominate enforcement activity

As in previous years, enforcement focused mainly on breaches of the Market Abuse Regulation and the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive and Regulation.

Germany, France and Spain account for two thirds of fine value

Enforcement remained concentrated in a small number of jurisdictions. Germany, France and Spain together accounted for two thirds of the total value of administrative fines across the EEA.

ESMA Completes T+1 Rulebook as EU Settlement Switch Nears

European Union – October 27, 2026 -- The EU will switch to T+1 settlement on 11 October 2027, and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) says the regulatory framework is now complete. ESMA is calling on market participants to finalise technical preparations, assess readiness across their entire ecosystems and start testing across the trading and settlement chain as soon as possible.

First compliance deadline for allocations and confirmations falls on 7 December 2026

Investment firms and their clients must comply with the new allocation and confirmation requirements from 7 December 2026. From that date, the amended RTS on Settlement Discipline makes two things mandatory:

- electronic, standardised communication channels and international messaging standards;
- machine-readable communication methods, except during temporary technical disruptions.
