London – September 15, 2026 -- Tulip Licensing Ltd has launched Tulip Imaging, a patent licensing program granting implementers access to more than 125,000 patents covering digital imaging and information processing technologies contributed by Canon Inc., Sony Group Corporation, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., and Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp., Ltd.
Four technology giants pool 125,000-plus patents into a single licensing program
The combined portfolio spans decades of research from four of the largest imaging technology developers globally, covering optics, cameras, image processing, computational photography, and artificial intelligence-driven imaging systems. Tulip describes the offering as the most significant consolidation of digital imaging and information processing patents to date, allowing implementers to tailor licenses to specific products and business needs rather than negotiating separately with each patent holder.
Canon and Sony frame the program as protection for decades of R&D investment
Hideki Sanatake, Managing Executive Officer at Canon's Corporate Intellectual Property and Legal Headquarters, said the program supports continued investment in optics, medical imaging, and printing innovation built over more than eighty years. Yuko Tsuda, President of Sony Intellectual Property Services Corporation, said the initiative provides a transparent licensing route for technologies that have shaped the modern digital imaging era.
Huawei and OPPO open previously proprietary imaging patents to licensees
Alan Fan, Chief Intellectual Property Officer of Huawei, said the company is opening up formerly proprietary imaging technologies that combine AI and computational photography through the joint program. Adler Feng, Chief Intellectual Property Officer of OPPO, said the collaboration reflects OPPO's ongoing imaging R&D investment and supports a sustainable intellectual property ecosystem across the industry.
Tulip named licensing administrator for the four-company patent pool
Canon, Sony, Huawei, and OPPO have appointed Tulip Licensing Ltd as administrator for the program, tasking the firm with structuring and managing licensing terms across the combined portfolio. The move consolidates patent access for device makers and technology firms that rely on imaging and information processing components in consumer electronics, smartphones, and digital commerce applications.
