(NASDAQ: CEVA) and LG Electronics have secured a major U.S. semiconductor company as a customer for a jointly developed Ultra-Wideband (UWB) solution, marking commercial validation for the two-company collaboration announced today.
Ceva's baseband IP pairs with LG's RF technology on TSMC's 22nm process
The partnership combines Ceva-Waves UWB baseband and software with UWB radio frequency technology developed by LG's SoC Center, built on TSMC's 22nm process node. The integrated platform targets semiconductor and OEM developers building automotive, industrial and consumer products, aiming to cut engineering effort and integration risk for companies building UWB-enabled SoCs.
UWB market shipments projected to double by 2030
ABI Research forecasts UWB device shipments will reach nearly 1.18 billion units by 2030, up from 597 million in 2026. The technology is expanding beyond proximity applications like digital keys and trackers into higher-value automotive, industrial and enterprise use cases requiring precise, secure location awareness.
New architecture supports latest IEEE 802.15.4ab standard
Ceva's next-generation Ceva-Waves UWB architecture supports the IEEE 802.15.4ab standard, delivering ranging performance in non-line-of-sight environments and at extended range while maintaining low-power operation. The platform also supports UWB radar sensing and new channels introduced in the latest standard, extending applicability to secure access, asset tracking, indoor navigation and positioning.
Executives frame deal as lowering barriers to UWB adoption
LG Electronics Vice President KANG YongSeok said the company has continued strengthening its semiconductor design capabilities, including RF technologies critical to high-performance wireless solutions. Tal Shalev, Vice President and General Manager of Ceva's Wireless IoT Business Unit, said the combined baseband, software and RF technologies give customers an integrated foundation for differentiated UWB products, calling the semiconductor customer win "strong validation" of the collaboration.
