Hollywood, Fla. – October 01, 2026 -- Memorial Healthcare System has appointed Madison Workman, FACHE, as chief executive officer of Memorial Hospital Pembroke, a 301-bed facility in Pembroke Pines, placing him in charge of operations and growth strategy at the hospital.

Workman Previously Oversaw $100 Million in Capital Projects at Broward Health North

Workman joins from Broward Health North, a 409-bed Level II trauma hospital, where he served as chief operating officer managing roughly 800 employees across clinical and support services. He expanded his role to lead the systemwide Safety and Security program and the COO Council, while helping direct more than $100 million in construction and capital investment focused on patient throughput and hospital expansion.

Hollywood, Fla. – September 30, 2026 -- Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation has secured a $230,000 grant from Simply Healthcare Foundation to expand New Solutions, a pediatric mental health treatment and suicide prevention program, over the next three years.

Grant funds care for 267 individuals over three years

The three-year grant began July 1 and will allow New Solutions to serve 267 individuals, targeting the gap between emergency psychiatric treatment and community-based behavioral health care. The program addresses children and adolescents who arrive at the emergency department in crisis but do not meet medical criteria for hospital admission or an involuntary examination under Florida's Baker Act.

Hollywood, Fla. – September 16, 2026 -- Memorial Healthcare System has appointed Atif M. Hussein, M.D., as chief of Memorial Cancer Institute, capping more than 25 years of physician leadership at the South Florida cancer program.

Hussein built the institute from a handful of oncologists into a comprehensive cancer network

Recruited from Duke University more than two decades ago, Dr. Hussein joined Memorial when its oncology staff was minimal. He since expanded multidisciplinary care, clinical research and graduate medical education, while recruiting nationally recognized physicians to the program.

Operating income surges more than 60% to $220.7 million

Excess of revenues over expenses reached a record $487.6 million, up 20.3% year-over-year. Memorial's net position grew by more than $503 million, closing the fiscal year at $4.1 billion.

Hollywood, Fla. – September 09, 2026 -- The South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners has confirmed Shane Strum as permanent President and CEO of Memorial Healthcare System, ending a two-year interim term that began in September 2024. Strum will continue leading a system of more than 17,000 physicians and employees across six hospitals, including Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.

Memorial posts strongest financial performance in its 73-year history

During Strum's interim tenure, Memorial recorded its best fiscal-year financial results since its founding.
