Potsdam – October 27, 2026 -- Public broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) and MediaTech Hub Potsdam Management GmbH (MTH) signed a cooperation agreement in October to trial new technologies, including artificial intelligence, in protected test environments.

Partners plan AI trials in selected innovation projects

The agreement centers on exchange about technology development, production methods and media usage. It also addresses how the media industry can remain viable during technological change.

The partners will hold regular, structured exchange formats on current media technologies and connect experts. In selected innovation projects, they intend to test new technologies, for example from the field of AI, in protected environments.

rbb's technology division takes charge of the partnership

rbb's Technology and Infrastructure division (TUI) is responsible for the cooperation, which forms part of the broadcaster's innovation work. The aim is to absorb outside impulses and to evaluate new technologies early, within a protected framework and under clear security requirements.

MTH contributes a network of experts, start-ups and research institutions in direct proximity. Both partners are based in Medienstadt Babelsberg.

Executives cite practical relevance and local innovation strength

rbb Director General Ulrike Demmer said the public broadcaster wants to help shape industry change by understanding new technologies early and testing them under clear standards. She named the audience as the ultimate beneficiary.

MTH Managing Director Peter Effenberg said rbb deploys media technology at large scale every day, from production to distribution. He called that practical experience highly valuable for MTH's network of start-ups, companies and research institutions. The partners also want to showcase the innovation strength of the Potsdam media location.
