NJ American Water Completes $21.3M PFAS Plant Upgrade in Salem

Camden, N.J. – October 29, 2026 -- New Jersey American Water and Salem City have completed a $21.3 million PFAS treatment installation at the Salem Water Treatment Plant. The system can treat up to 2 million gallons of water per day and is designed to meet federal and state drinking water requirements.

Utility fast-tracked treatment after acquiring a non-compliant system

When New Jersey American Water acquired Salem's water and wastewater systems in June 2024, the water system was not meeting applicable PFAS drinking water regulations. The company fast-tracked design and construction of a permanent solution. It broke ground in Spring 2025 and placed the new treatment into service in November of that year. The final housing facility was completed in Summer 2026.

Keyfactor Film Urges Business-Risk Approach to Post-Quantum Migration

Atlanta – October 29, 2026 -- The White House has set deadlines of end-2030 for post-quantum key establishment and end-2031 for digital signatures on federal high-value assets and high-impact systems, and Keyfactor is using a new Cybercrime Magazine film to press enterprises to start their own migrations.

The film, sponsored by Keyfactor, features Fortune 500 and Global 2000 chief information security officers, cybersecurity leaders and cryptography experts. It argues that readiness should be driven by business risk, not by predictions of when Q-Day arrives. Q-Day is the point at which quantum computers can break widely used public-key cryptography.

NDAA Section 848 Extends Drone Compliance Beyond Country of Origin

United States – October 29, 2026 -- Section 848 of the FY2020 National Defense Authorization Act restricts the U.S. Department of Defense from operating or procuring certain drones tied to China, Russia, Iran and North Korea, and its reach extends past the aircraft's assembly location to components, software and data services.

Section 848 covers flight controllers, radios, cameras and data storage

A drone assembled in the United States or another approved country is not automatically NDAA compliant. Restricted components, software or data services used elsewhere in the system can disqualify it. Buyers must trace the origin of flight controllers, radios, data-transmission devices, cameras and gimbals. Ground-control systems, operating software, network connectivity and data storage also affect compliance.

Jamming averaged 5,131 incidents per day across the quarter, broadly unchanged from Q2. Since Operation Epic Fury began in February 2026, Windward has recorded more than 3.35 million false ship-to-ship meetings, in which injected coordinates made vessels appear to rendezvous when no meeting took place.

Over-Dosing Disinfectant Raises Byproduct Risk, Water Expert Warns

Loretto, Tennessee – October 29, 2026 -- Over-dosing disinfectant wastes chemicals, accelerates equipment wear and can create regulated byproducts, according to Justin McGee of Southeastern Tank, who argues that water treatment operators should manage dosing by precision rather than volume.

Over-dosing creates regulated byproducts and equipment wear

McGee told HelloNation that adding more disinfectant does not automatically improve safety. Excess dosing can form trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids, compounds regulated because of potential health risks. Chemicals added in excess must later be neutralized or flushed from the system, which raises energy and maintenance costs.
