Montreal – September 22, 2026 -- AECOM used One Click LCA's Carbon Designer 3D platform to model whole-life carbon emissions for a major transportation corridor redevelopment in the City of Montreal before detailed engineering plans existed, enabling early comparison of low-carbon design options.
City of Montreal targets a low-carbon, climate-resilient district
The municipality launched the redevelopment to transform the corridor and surrounding neighborhood into a climate-resilient zone, requiring comparison of early design concepts before detailed designs were finalized.
AECOM integrates carbon modeling into pre-design decarbonization workflow
AECOM embedded One Click LCA directly into its ScopeX decarbonization workflow during the pre-design phase, using the tool to estimate material quantities from early models and test multiple scenarios within a single workflow. The firm modeled life cycle greenhouse gas emissions across production, construction, use, and end-of-life phases for major project components.
Roadway width and overpass configuration adjustments deliver carbon reductions
Scenario modeling identified that design changes such as adjusting roadway width and optimizing overpass structural configuration produced meaningful carbon reductions, according to Jérémy Lagneau, ESG and Decarbonization Advisor at AECOM.
Lagneau said the platform provided actionable insights early in the design process, allowing the team to model emissions for major components across all life cycle phases using Carbon Designer 3D alongside other tools.
