SpectraMax software lifted peak-hour capacity by 4.1% across 60-plus cell sites
In a live trial spanning more than 60 sites in a major U.S. metropolitan area, Aglocell's SpectraMax platform increased network-wide capacity by 4.1% during peak busy hour, equal to roughly one terabyte of additional data throughput. The company says the gain matches one-third of a full new spectrum layer, a physical buildout that typically costs carriers $43,000 per cell site, or nearly $2.6 million across the tested sites.
Bruce Peterson, Founder and Managing Director of Aglocell, said the capacity value can scale sharply once applied nationwide. "When you multiply that across a national footprint of tens-of-thousands of sites, you're looking at more than a billion dollars in value that can be realized through software instead of spectrum, radios, steel and concrete," Peterson said.
Carrier plans to expand deployment after 10x potential return on investment
Aglocell estimates the metro trial produced roughly $2.6 million in equivalent capacity value at a fraction of traditional buildout cost, a potential 10x return on investment. The carrier has signaled plans to extend the SpectraMax deployment to a significantly larger market cluster.
Rural deployment pushed carrier into a first-place tie on RootMetrics scoring
In a separate rural-market trial, Aglocell applied newly enhanced SpectraMax optimization features to improve day-to-day service quality rather than raw capacity. The deployment lifted the carrier's RootMetrics US Overall RootScore, driving measurable gains in call handling, network reliability and responsiveness, and helping push the carrier into a first-place tie in that test market. The carrier has previously linked similar performance gains to improved customer satisfaction scores and subscriber revenue growth.
Flat RAN capex forecasts push carriers toward software-based capacity gains
Dell'Oro Group forecasts Radio Access Network capital expenditure will stay flat or decline over the next five years, pressuring carriers to find cheaper alternatives to spectrum purchases, new hardware and tower crew dispatches. SpectraMax is built to operate across multi-vendor networks, integrating with the Ericsson Intelligent Automation Platform and Snowflake, with planned support for Nokia MantaRay and Samsung's SMO solution, allowing operators to deploy a single optimization engine instead of separate tools per vendor.
