Singapore – – September 12, 2026 -- The Alliance to End Plastic Waste has mobilized $641 million in third-party and impact-investor financing since 2019 while diverting 378,147 tonnes of uncontrolled plastic waste and creating value from 418,529 tonnes of plastic, according to its 2025 Progress Report, "Strategy in Action," released today. The report marks the first year of implementation under the organization's Strategy 2030 framework.
Alliance diverted 138,162 tonnes of plastic waste in 2025 alone
In 2025, the nonprofit reduced 138,162 tonnes of uncontrolled plastic waste and recovered 165,317 tonnes, contributing to the cumulative totals since its founding. Education and behavior-change initiatives have reached more than 1.5 million people since inception, and the Alliance engaged 559 organizations in 2025 to finance, develop and implement its projects.
Country programs concentrate resources in Brazil, Saudi Arabia, India, Indonesia and South Africa
The Alliance is shifting from smaller standalone projects toward large-scale, integrated country and thematic programs. Active country programs currently operate in Brazil, the GCC (Saudi Arabia), India, Indonesia and South Africa, alongside a thematic program spanning Europe and North America. "2025 was an important first year for Strategy 2030, as we strengthened the foundations for impact at scale and systemic change," said Jacob Duer, President and CEO of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste.
Indonesia pilot in Malang district triggers up to $40 million expansion
In Indonesia, the Alliance launched an integrated waste management pilot in the Malang regency of East Java in 2025, combining source separation, improved collection and sorting, and closer links to local recyclers. The organization has committed up to $40 million to replicate the Malang model across multiple cities and regencies under the government's Solid Waste Management for Sustainable Urban Development (SWM-SUD) project, backed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
India's Mathura-Vrindavan facility runs at 75% capacity, targets 300 tonnes daily
An Alliance-financed municipal waste recovery facility built with local authorities in Mathura-Vrindavan, India, is currently operating at 75% capacity. Once fully operational, the plant is designed to process up to 300 tonnes of waste per day and divert 80% of the city's waste from landfill.
Phoenix pilot targets flexible plastics through on-site baling model
In Phoenix, Arizona, the Alliance's thematic "Flexibles" program partnered with RME Defeats Waste to launch a commercial and industrial collection model for flexible plastics. The project offers on-site baling and on-demand pickup to smaller waste generators—including manufacturers and hospitals—that produce insufficient volumes for conventional collection to be economically viable. The Alliance also commissioned a study of the U.S. flexible plastics system to map supply, demand and end-market opportunities for recycled material.
Lombard Odier's Plastic Circularity Strategy closes, backs Fych Technologies and Bloom Biorenewables
The Plastic Circularity Strategy managed by Lombard Odier Investment Managers (LOIM), which the Alliance helped establish through seed funding and technical advisory support, reached final close in summer 2026. The fund continues to deploy growth capital into circularity-focused companies, including Spain's Fych Technologies, which holds a patented process for recycling complex multilayer plastics, and Switzerland's Bloom Biorenewables, which converts non-edible biomass into bio-based chemicals and materials.
