SHERIDAN, WYOMING – July 23, 2024 – Amcor (NYSE: AMCR, ASX:AMC), a global frontrunner in responsible packaging solutions, today announced the launch of its highly anticipated "Bottles of the Year" program. This annual initiative, unveiled on National Packaging Design Day 2024, recognizes and celebrates the most innovative and eco-conscious packaging designs that resonate with evolving consumer preferences across a diverse range of industries.

A Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability

Amcor Rigid Packaging's "Bottles of the Year" program shines a spotlight on exceptional designs that address contemporary consumer trends and embrace the latest technologies in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic. The program aims to inspire both consumers and industry partners by showcasing packaging solutions that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally responsible.

"We are thrilled to unveil the Bottles of the Year program, which celebrates excellence in packaging design," said Terry Patcheak, Vice President of R&D, Sustainability, and Project Management at Amcor Rigid Packaging. "Our designers continually explore new possibilities in packaging, and this program allows us to showcase their innovative efforts."

Addressing Consumer Demands with Purposeful Design

The inaugural collection of five bottle designs is a testament to Amcor's commitment to meeting the evolving needs of both consumers and brands. Each design is ready for commercialization and addresses specific challenges faced by industries such as beverage, spirits & wine, food & dairy, home & personal care, and healthcare.

"The bottles featured in this inaugural release were designed to address some of the most pressing customer and consumer concerns," Patcheak added. "For instance, we've developed a rib-less hot fill bottle for beverage manufacturers using our PowerPost™ base technology. We're also introducing a 375 ml Nordic shape spirits & wine bottle with Quantum™ technology, and a multipack-friendly broth bottle with a unique inner-locking design."

Key Consumer Trends in Focus

The Bottles of the Year program takes into account five pivotal consumer trends:

  1. Empowerment: Consumers seek brands that enable them to make sustainable choices. The program's PET bottles are recyclable, and features like the tethered closure on the Beverage bottle promote responsible disposal.
  2. Simplification: Consumers value products that are user-friendly. The Home & Personal Care Bottle, designed for refilling, exemplifies simplicity with its clean, ergonomic design.
  3. Value: Cost-conscious consumers appreciate efficient packaging. The Food & Dairy Bottle optimizes space, resulting in cost savings throughout the supply chain.
  4. Identity: Consumers crave products that reflect their individuality. The customizable Healthcare Bottle allows for personal expression.
  5. Connection: Consumers are drawn to products that foster community and support local businesses. The spirits & wine bottle, with its premium glass-like appearance, caters to the growing trend of cocktails-to-go.

A Collaborative Approach to Packaging Innovation

The bottle designs are the result of a collaborative effort among Amcor's marketing, industrial design, in-house studio design (ScorCreative™), and product development teams. This cross-functional approach has yielded innovative concepts that challenge traditional norms and solidify Amcor's position as a leader in packaging innovation.
