Riverdale – October 14, 2026 -- America First Credit Union's Board of Directors has selected Chief Financial Officer Missy Key as President and CEO, effective March 1, 2027, to succeed Thayne Shaffer, who will retire after 38 years with the institution.
Key becomes the sixth CEO in America First's history
Key has spent 38 years at America First, holding progressive roles in accounting and finance. Most recently she served as executive vice president and CFO. In that role she worked with the executive leadership team on strategic direction and on strengthening the credit union's financial position, according to the announcement.
Succession follows two mergers and growth to nearly 1.7 million members
The appointment comes after a year in which America First merged with Meadows Bank and Greater Nevada Credit Union. Membership has grown to nearly 1.7 million.
Board Chair Linda Carver said Key's tenure has prepared her for the role and that members, employees and community partners are "in good hands."
Shaffer's six-year tenure delivered record growth and three deals
Shaffer became President and CEO in 2021. During his almost six-year tenure, America First reported record asset and membership growth, completed three mergers and acquisitions, and launched a new digital banking system. The credit union also operated through a pandemic and a recession during that period.
Key said she plans to work with the Board and teams to build on the credit union's core values of serving members and strengthening the communities it serves.
