Jeffersonville – September 21, 2026 -- The American Water Charitable Foundation has awarded a $25,000 STEM Education Grant to Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, funding a three-part outdoor science program for girls in Southern Indiana.
Grant funds hands-on STEM series covering conservation and pollinator habitats
The award will underwrite a three-part outdoor education series giving Girl Scouts direct experience in scientific research, environmental conservation and pollinator habitat restoration. The grant was announced during a Free Family Fun event at Origin Park earlier this month, where Indiana American Water also deployed a mobile water trailer for attendees.
Foundation ties grant to Keep Communities Flowing program targeting underserved students
The award falls under the American Water Charitable Foundation's Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, structured around three giving pillars: Water, People and Communities. The program specifically funds STEM-focused curricular and extracurricular initiatives for underserved student populations.
Carrie Williams, President of the American Water Charitable Foundation, said the grant is designed to give students hands-on STEM exposure that builds long-term curiosity and environmental awareness.
Indiana American Water frames grant as extension of local environmental stewardship
Brittany Montgomery, Senior Manager of Southern Indiana Operations at Indiana American Water, said the program links science education to conservation practices relevant to the communities the utility serves. Maggie Elder, CEO of Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, said the funding will extend hands-on STEM access across the organization's regional footprint.
Indiana American Water is the largest regulated water utility in the state, serving approximately 1.5 million people. Its parent company, American Water (NYSE: AWK), operates regulated water and wastewater services for roughly 14 million people across 14 states and 19 military installations.
Foundation has deployed over $25 million since 2012 without impacting customer rates
The American Water Charitable Foundation has invested more than $25 million in grants and matching gifts since 2012 to organizations in communities served by American Water. The Foundation is funded entirely by American Water shareholders and does not affect customer utility rates.
