Anantara Opens 13-Key Kafue Camp in Zambia From $6,289 a Night

Kafue – October 12, 2026 -- Anantara has opened Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River, its first safari property in Africa, with opening rates from USD 6,289 per room per night for two guests sharing a suite. The 13-key, off-grid camp sits on the Kafue River in Zambia's largest national park and launches in the year Anantara marks its 25th anniversary.

Camp pairs wellness with conservation-led safari programming

The camp was three years in the making. Its safari experiences were developed in partnership with African Parks, and wellness is given equal weight with conservation in the product. The rate covers full board, premium beverages, twice-daily game drives, personalised butler service and one 90-minute spa treatment per person per stay.

Suites and villas rise up to 14.3 metres above the ground

Three 110-square-metre Horizon Terrace Suites are suspended 14.3 metres above the ground and reached by glass elevator. Each has an upper-deck star bed and a private terrace with a Green Egg BBQ. Nine 115-square-metre Pool and Bush Villas stand 3.5 metres up on timber platforms, with heated plunge pools and indoor massage rooms.

The 400-square-metre Presidential Villa also sits 3.5 metres above the river and has exclusive boat access. The camp is built on rosewood platforms to protect wildlife corridors. It runs on solar power, with on-site water purification and minimal single-use plastics. Meg Ralph Spaces designed it, and the project has won top LIV Hospitality Design Awards.

Floating gym and pontoon dining set the camp apart

A floating Technogym fitness platform is anchored on the river. The camp says no other property in Zambia offers in-suite massage rooms with steam showers or a floating gym of this kind. A river pontoon seating up to four guests hosts breakfasts, afternoon tea and sunset wine tastings under the brand's Designer Dining concept. Meals are included in the stay.

African Parks restoration effort anchors the destination

Kafue National Park covers 22,480 km2. Since 2022, African Parks and the Government of Zambia have strengthened security, rebuilt infrastructure and improved fire management. Kafue lechwe antelope were reintroduced in 2024. Zambia's largest wildlife translocation followed in 2025, returning wildebeest and zebra to the park's grasslands.

Zambian guides lead twice-daily game drives. River safaris, bush picnics and catch-and-release fishing are also offered. The property lists hippos, elephants, large predators, antelope and more than 500 bird species.

Green Season runs December through March

Anantara is promoting December through March, when vegetation flourishes and migratory birds arrive, as a period of cooler temperatures and fewer visitors.

Guests can take private charter flights from Livingstone or Lusaka to Chunga airstrip. Lusaka International Airport is a four-hour drive from the camp, with private road transfers available.
