Aon Launches $2.5B Power Lifecycle Insurance for Gas Projects

Dublin – – September 28, 2026 -- Aon plc (NYSE: AON) has launched its Power Lifecycle Program (PLP), a new insurance solution offering up to $2.5 billion in coverage per project to support conventional gas power projects from construction through operations.

Aon offers up to $2.5 billion in combined construction and operational coverage per project

The program provides up to $2.5 billion in Erection All Risks and Delay in Startup coverage for construction, testing and commissioning phases, plus a separate $2.5 billion in Operational Property Damage and Business Interruption coverage for early operations. Clients can also access up to $100 million in Construction and Operational Third-Party Liability coverage, excluding U.S. projects.

The insurer consolidates fragmented risk placements into a single lifecycle framework

PLP replaces the traditional model of arranging insurance separately at each project stage with one coordinated risk-transfer strategy spanning site selection, construction, commissioning and ongoing operations. Aon states this approach reduces coverage gaps and improves capital efficiency for developers, owners, lenders and investors managing interconnected risks that can otherwise disrupt schedules, financing and revenue.

London-based carriers anchor the program's capacity structure

A lead panel of London-based carriers underpins PLP, combining power-sector underwriting expertise with capacity for global clients. Additional capacity is predominantly sourced from London, supplemented by local and global market participation to support projects worldwide.

Data center power demand drives the product's target client base

PLP targets power infrastructure developers, private equity firms funding power projects, contractors and infrastructure owners for both grid-connected conventional gas plants and dedicated power projects serving data centers. Joe Peiser, CEO of Risk Capital at Aon, said the program helps clients take a more holistic approach to managing project, operational and infrastructure risk as energy infrastructure investment grows.

The launch follows Aon's July 2026 expansion of its data center insurance capacity to $5 billion

PLP builds on Aon's Data Center Lifecycle Insurance Program, which expanded to $5 billion in capacity in July 2026. Aon frames the two programs as a combined lifecycle strategy for clients building and scaling power and digital infrastructure amid rising demand from cloud computing and artificial intelligence workloads.
