Aroa's Myriad Scaffold Shows 0.7% Deep Infection Rate in 411-Patient Study

Auckland – September 09, 2026 -- Aroa Biosurgery Limited (ASX: ARX) reported that interim results from its MASTRR Registry found deep tissue infection in just 0.7% of patients treated with its Myriad Matrix and Myriad Morcells bioscaffolds, with no adverse events causally linked to the products.

Largest published prospective bioscaffold study covers 411 patients, 474 defects

The peer-reviewed analysis, published in Advances in Therapy, tracked 411 patients and 474 soft tissue defects across 10 US centers. Aroa says this represents, to its knowledge, the largest published prospective analysis of a bioscaffold in in-patient soft tissue reconstruction.

Patient population skewed toward high-risk, complex cases

Approximately 59% of patients were classified ASA III or IV, indicating significant systemic disease. Comorbidities included diabetes in 35% of patients, vascular disease in 30% and nicotine use in 23%. Among the wound characteristics, 89% of defects were clean-contaminated or contaminated, 59% were chronic, 15% involved confirmed osteomyelitis and 11% involved exposed bone, tendon or viscera.

Infection rates undercut synthetic bioscaffold benchmarks by wide margin

Superficial infection occurred in 2.9% of patients over a median follow-up of 27 weeks, with a median of one Myriad application per defect. The study authors compared these figures against separately published meta-analyses of resorbable synthetic bioscaffolds used in complex soft tissue reconstruction, which reported infection rates ranging from 16% to 25%.

Surgical site infections carry material cost and length-of-stay burden

A cited US analysis of open surgical procedures found that a surgical site infection added an average 7.8 to 9.3 days to hospital stays and approximately US$18,600 to US$21,000 in healthcare costs, with deep infections imposing an even larger burden. The MASTRR interim analysis assessed safety rather than cost outcomes, but Aroa said the infection profile may carry relevance for providers managing complex wounds.

Registry expansion continues toward 800-patient enrollment target

More than 550 patients are currently enrolled in the ongoing, prospective multicenter observational study, which is approved to enroll up to 800 patients across 15 US sites. The publication adds to prior procedure-specific MASTRR analyses covering lower extremity reconstruction, trauma, burns, pilonidal disease and pressure injuries.

CEO ties clinical data to commercial trajectory following 54% sales growth

Aroa CEO Brian Ward said the publication marks an important milestone for Myriad and the registry, noting the infection profile compared favorably with other commercially available bioscaffolds. The company linked the findings to Myriad's commercial momentum, which included 54% sales growth in fiscal year 2026.
