Washington, D.C. – September 24, 2026 -- Biman Bangladesh Airlines has signed a supplemental agreement with Boeing to add 787-10 Dreamliner and 737-8 MAX airplanes to its fleet, deepening a partnership that already spans the 787, 777 and 737 Next-Generation families.
Biman locks in fleet renewal with proven Boeing commonality
The agreement builds on Biman's existing operational base of 787, 777 and 737NG aircraft, which connect Bangladesh to hubs in the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, and Europe. Rumee A Hossain, chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, said the order responds to specific requirements in the carrier's fleet plan and reflects confidence built through years of working with Boeing on delivery and support arrangements.
New aircraft cut fuel burn 20-25% versus outgoing models
Boeing said the 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX families deliver 20-25% greater fuel efficiency compared with the airplanes they replace, a factor central to Biman's modernization strategy. The 737-8 extends range on Biman's single-aisle network, while the 787-10 adds capacity alongside the carrier's existing 787-9 and 787-8 fleet.
Boeing frames deal as evidence of Bangladesh's growing aviation role
Brad McMullen, Boeing senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing, called the follow-on order a reflection of Biman's strategic approach to fleet renewal and capacity growth. Boeing officials present the deal as reinforcing a long-standing commercial relationship as Bangladesh's aviation sector expands.
Bangladesh and U.S. officials attend as connectivity push widens
The agreement was marked in the presence of Bangladesh's Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir, Invest Bangladesh Authority Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, and Advisor to the Prime Minister Madhi Amin, alongside U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. Hossain described the order as one component of a broader plan to strengthen Bangladesh's international connectivity for its expatriate, business and tourism travelers in the years ahead.
