BNP Paribas Signs Five-Year Deal for Google Cloud's Gemini AI Agents

Paris – September 24, 2026 -- BNP Paribas has signed a five-year partnership with Google Cloud to expand its access to AI-optimized infrastructure, Gemini models and Gemini Enterprise, the companies announced.

BNP Paribas will integrate Gemini models into its internal AI assistant used by 65,000 employees

The bank's Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) division plans to fold Gemini models into LLM@CIB, its generative AI assistant, and deploy agentic AI across sales, trading, research and structuring workflows, including the preparation of corporate credit memos.

Gemini already powers customer support for 200 advisers at Nickel

Google Cloud and Gemini technologies are already live at Nickel, BNP Paribas' payment account business within its Commercial, Personal Banking & Services division, where Gemini underpins Nickel Assist, a tool helping 200 customer advisers resolve client requests based on operating procedures.

The deal reinforces BNP Paribas' multi-cloud, multi-model strategy under existing governance rules

"A multi-cloud and multi-model approach gives us the flexibility to select, for each case, the right model, infrastructure and level of control to meet our requirements for quality and security while delivering the best balance between cost and value," said Marc Camus, Group Chief Information Officer at BNP Paribas.

Certain categories of data will remain excluded from public cloud environments under the bank's security and data governance framework. Each AI agent deployed will be authenticated and restricted to only the resources required for its assigned task, with all connections to the Group's information systems monitored and controlled.

Google Cloud CEO frames the deal as part of a broader shift toward agentic AI in banking

"Agentic AI marks a critical shift in how global financial institutions streamline operations, assess risk, and serve their clients," said Thomas Kurian, CEO at Google Cloud, noting that BNP Paribas will combine its banking operations with Google Cloud's infrastructure and Gemini Enterprise to deploy intelligent agents across bank platforms.

Charles Holive, Chief AI Officer at BNP Paribas CIB, said the bank evaluates technology fit against specific business needs before deployment within its security and governance framework, adding that agentic AI can help teams manage more complex workflows while maintaining appropriate control.

The partnership feeds into BNP Paribas' Group-wide AI adoption program, which spans training from foundational AI literacy to specialized agent development.
