Rome – October 01, 2026 -- Bridgestone Americas will become the sole tire supplier for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship starting with the 2026/27 Season, equipping the fastest car in the series' history.
GEN4 car hits 208 mph with 815bhp, demanding new tire engineering
The new GEN4 racing car accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 1.8 seconds, reaches a top speed of 208 mph and delivers 600kW (815bhp) of peak power with permanent active all-wheel drive. Bridgestone developed the POTENZA GEN4 tire specifically to handle this performance increase, offering high grip, durability across full race distances and adaptability to varied global road and weather conditions.
Bridgestone adds dedicated wet-weather tire for heavy rain conditions
The company also introduced the POTENZA GEN4 for TYPHOON TIRE, a rain-specific tire designed for stable driving in heavy wet conditions with significant standing water. The TYPHOON TIRE specification name is set by the FIA for Formula E's heavy wet tire category.
65% of GEN4 tire materials come from recycled and renewable sources
Bridgestone achieved a 65% ratio of recycled and renewable materials in every GEN4 tire, using carbon black derived from pyrolysis oil of end-of-life tires and silica sourced from rice husks. Natural rubber in the tires comes from supply chains vetted through Bridgestone due diligence, compliant with the GPSNR Assurance System and verified by third parties. Tire manufacturing uses 100% renewable energy for heat and electricity, with additional CO2 reductions targeted through low-carbon logistics.
World premiere in Rome unveiled new tire and motorsport branding
Bridgestone held its Formula E World Premiere in Rome on September 30, attended by representatives from the FIA, Formula E, teams, drivers, global media and influencers. Global CEO Yasuhiro Morita, Global Motorsports CPO Hiroshi Imai and WEST CTO Emilio Tiberio presented the tire technology, unveiling GEN4 tires featuring Bridgestone's new motorsport logo and design elements for the first time. The event included a tour of Bridgestone's Technical Center Europe, the production site where engineers and test drivers developed the GEN4 tires.
Bridgestone to title-sponsor four races across the season
Beyond supplying tires for all races in the 2026/27 Season, Bridgestone will serve as title sponsor for four races, running special activations at each event. The 2026/27 Season is scheduled to start in December 2026 and run through July 2027, featuring 21 races across multiple countries.
Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds called the GEN4 car "the pinnacle of sustainable motorsport design," while FIA Senior Circuit Sport Director Marek Nawarecki said the tires will be central to delivering the performance and efficiency expected from the new generation of cars.
