BroadForward Goes Live in Terrestar's Canadian Satellite Network

Montreal – October 13, 2026 -- BroadForward's 4G routing (DRA/DEA) and Diameter Firewall are now live in the network of Terrestar Solutions Inc., Canada's only domestically headquartered and controlled mobile satellite operator, enabling mobile and IoT traffic to be routed between terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks.

The deployment extends BroadForward's presence in satellite communications. It supports signaling interoperability between Terrestar's Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) infrastructure and national mobile networks.

Terrestar targets the 75% of Canadian landmass without terrestrial coverage

More than 75% of Canada's landmass lacks terrestrial coverage. By routing signaling between satellite and cellular domains, BroadForward's platform lets Terrestar extend coverage in both directions, supporting its aim to bring mobile connectivity to rural and remote communities.

Services are already live for industrial and agricultural IoT. Consumer messaging and emergency alerts are on Terrestar's direct-to-mobile roadmap.

The rollout builds on Terrestar's Hybrid IoT platform, launched in February 2026 as Canada's first domestically controlled hybrid satellite-cellular IoT service, and on its 2025 partnership with Monogoto for nationwide hybrid IoT connectivity.

BroadForward's BFX Unified Signaling Core anchors a single satellite-terrestrial platform

The deployment runs on BroadForward's BFX Unified Signaling Core (USC), a GSMA GLOMO Award-winning multi-protocol engine covering STP, DRA/DEA, SCP, SEPP and firewall functions across 2G/3G, 4G and 5G. Terrestar gets one platform for satellite and terrestrial signaling as it moves from Diameter-based 4G interworking toward 5G Standalone and future direct-to-device NTN services.

Terrestar CTO Serge Legris said the routing infrastructure is the backbone of the operator's signaling network, managing traffic, maintaining satellite-cellular service continuity and accelerating new service rollouts.

SNS Insider forecasts NTN market growth from USD 11B to nearly USD 117B by 2032

Satellite-to-cellular signaling links specialized satellite systems with standard smartphones and IoT endpoints. Enterprise use cases include asset tracking and remote monitoring across logistics, agriculture and energy. Analyst firm SNS Insider forecasts the NTN market rising from USD 11B in 2023 to nearly USD 117B by 2032, a CAGR of about 42%.

BroadForward's signaling products are deployed at more than 100 MNOs, MVNOs, IPX, NTN, MNP and IoT providers worldwide, including multiple leading global IPX providers. CEO Taco Schoute said the win reflects the company's growing role in NTN interconnect signaling between satellite networks, terrestrial operators and roaming partners.
