Delray Beach – – September 11, 2026 -- The global carboxymethylcellulose calcium market will grow from $0.06 billion in 2026 to $0.09 billion by 2036, expanding at a compound annual growth rate of 4.8%, according to a new MarketsandMarkets forecast.
Asia Pacific emerges as the fastest-growing regional market through 2036
Asia Pacific is projected to post the highest CAGR of 5.2% over the forecast period, driven by expanding pharmaceutical manufacturing in China and India, rising generic drug output, and growing contract manufacturing activity. Well-established supply chains in both countries are reinforcing cost-efficient production and rising domestic consumption of cellulose-based excipients.
Fine powder grades dominate current demand with 58% value share
The fine powder segment held 58.0% of market value in 2025, favored for its dispersibility, uniform particle size and rapid swelling properties in tablet disintegration. Pharmaceutical-grade material is set to register the market's highest CAGR of 4.8%, as manufacturers scale generic drug production requiring high-purity excipients that meet pharmacopeial specifications.
Pharmaceutical excipients remain the largest end-use application by value
Carboxymethylcellulose calcium's role as a binder, disintegrant, stabilizer and viscosity modifier in solid oral dosage forms continues to anchor the largest end-use segment. Expanding wound-care, medical device, nutraceutical and cosmetics applications are adding incremental demand for its thickening and stabilizing properties.
Patel Chem Specialities raises $6.9 million to fund new Gujarat production line
In July 2025, India's Patel Chem Specialities Limited raised INR 58.80 crore (approximately $6.9 million) through an initial public offering to finance a new manufacturing facility at Indrad, Mahesana, Gujarat. The plant will produce Croscarmellose Sodium, Sodium Starch Glycolate and Calcium Carboxymethylcellulose, adding roughly 6,012 metric tons per annum of capacity and lifting the company's total installed capacity to approximately 9,732 metric tons per annum.
Gotoku Chemical Co., Anhui Sunhere Pharmaceutical Excipients, Anmol Chemicals, BOLAK Co. and Yichun Wonsen Intelligent Equipment lead the competitive field, while Shandong Yulong Cellulose Technology, Muby Chemicals and Padmashree Group have built distribution networks among smaller suppliers.
