NEW YORK – September 26, 2026 -- China Southern Airlines marked its 70th anniversary with a Times Square display, coinciding with the Mid-Autumn Festival, as the Guangzhou-based carrier reported a fleet of 972 aircraft and 174 million passengers carried in 2025.
Carrier operates 972-aircraft fleet spanning Boeing and Airbus widebodies
As of the end of 2025, China Southern's fleet included Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft, Airbus A350 and A330 models, alongside domestically produced C909 and C919 jets. The airline's network now spans 177 countries and more than 1,000 destinations worldwide.
2025 operating metrics show 91.01% on-time rate, 30 million safe flight hours
China Southern carried 174 million passengers in 2025 while achieving a 91.01% on-time performance rate. The carrier maintained more than 30 million consecutive hours of safe flight operations, a record it attributes to seven decades of safety-focused operations since its founding.
New York-Guangzhou route hits 12-year mark as transpacific network expands
This year marks the 12th anniversary of China Southern's direct New York-Guangzhou route. The airline also operates direct flights connecting Guangzhou with Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver, forming a North American gateway network anchored to its Guangzhou hub.
Airline ties onboard sustainability push to fuel efficiency and waste reduction
China Southern outlined sustainability commitments including sustainable aviation fuel adoption, fuel-efficient flight operations, carbon-footprint-labeled meals and biodegradable alternatives to single-use plastics. The carrier's "Gourmet Southern Airlines" initiative incorporates regional cuisine and refreshed onboard amenities across its network.
