Cionic's TRANSFORM Study Shows 26% Quality-of-Life Gain in Mobility Patients

San Francisco – September 13, 2026 -- Cionic reported that the first 60 participants in its TRANSFORM study showed an average 26% improvement in health-related quality of life after one month, using the standardized EQ-5D-5L instrument across all five measured dimensions.

The TRANSFORM study follows 1,000 adults with multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, and related conditions over 12 months, collecting quality-of-life data through six surveys administered via the Cionic mobile app at onboarding and at one, three, six, nine, and 12 months. The primary endpoint, EQ-5D-5L, measures mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain, and anxiety/depression, while secondary measures track spasticity, urinary incontinence, and fatigue.

Rebecca Webster, PhD, vice president of clinical operations at Cionic, said the study aims to build a dataset that helps this population access therapies with the most consequential effect on daily function. Cionic CEO Jeremiah Robison said early results show improvements across all five EQ-5D dimensions, including mobility, daily activities, self-care and pain, and that the company is beginning to identify how usage patterns optimize outcomes.

The FDA-cleared Class II Cionic Neural Sleeve delivers individualized electrical stimulation across four muscle groups using IMU-based kinematics, combining efferent and afferent stimulation to activate muscle movement and reduce spasms. In paired testing, 94% of participants showed improved gait, with a 68% increase in foot clearance and a 44% improvement in ankle stability. Home trial participants using the second-generation device reported a 30% improvement in spasticity.

Cionic has established 35 clinical, research, and advocacy partnerships, including with Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, Stanford University, the University of Washington, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America. The TRANSFORM study follows the one-year anniversary of the company's second-generation Neural Sleeve, which was named to TIME's Best Inventions of 2025 list, following the original device's inclusion in 2023.
