CIP Commits to Italy's Biomethane Market with Via Verde FID

Copenhagen – – October 07, 2026 -- Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has reached a final investment decision on Via Verde, an Italian biomethane platform with a pipeline of 20 projects, marking the firm's first deployment under its Advanced Bioenergy Fund II (ABF II) and its entry into the Italian renewable gas market.

Via Verde pipeline spans three Italian regions with 20 planned plants

The platform's projects are located across Lombardy, Abruzzo, and Campania, with each plant designed to process between 60,000 and 100,000 tonnes of agricultural waste annually, converting feedstock into biomethane for injection into the gas grid.

Full build-out targets 1 TWh of annual output, covering 60,000 households

Once all 20 projects are operational, Via Verde is expected to generate approximately 1 TWh of biomethane per year, a volume CIP equates to the annual gas consumption of around 60,000 Italian households. The output is intended to displace imported fossil gas and contribute to domestic energy supply.

CIP cites Italy's 2030 biomethane targets as investment driver

Andreas F. Brandt, Partner at CIP, said the Via Verde investment gives the fund a strong foothold as Italy scales toward its 2030 biomethane targets, with CIP applying its advanced bioenergy expertise to support the platform's local team and project pipeline.

CIP frames the deal as supported by favourable market fundamentals and policy mechanisms in Italy, positioning Via Verde to establish an early at-scale presence in the country's biomethane sector. ABF II, which began fundraising in summer 2025, builds on capabilities CIP developed through its first Advanced Bioenergy Fund over the past four years.
