(CLF) has shipped Taiwan's first 5000-ton ultra-large two-platen injection molding machine, the CLF-5000TPII, to a top-tier US logistics and retail equipment supplier, marking the largest machine built in the company's 60-year history.
The unit will produce heavy-duty plastic bulk bins for produce, supplying modern logistics operators and major supermarket chain distribution networks across North America.
Two-platen design cuts machine length by 15-20% versus toggle units
CLF's R&D team selected a two-platen clamping system that eliminates the toggle linkage found in conventional machines, shrinking overall footprint by 15% to 20% compared with toggle machines of equivalent tonnage. The company relied on an in-house ultra-large overhead crane system and a dedicated bay of six large milling machine tools to achieve 100% in-house heavy machining capability for the build. To address facility height limits on overhead crane operations during mold changes, CLF added a customized side-entry mold loading design.
Electric-servo and far-infrared systems cut power draw by 20-50%
The machine is equipped with an electric-servo charging system and far-infrared heating elements designed to reduce heat radiated into the plant. According to CLF's process platform testing, the configuration cuts power consumption by 20% to 50% during volume production compared with conventional hydraulic drives, targeting long-term operating expenditure control for clients running at full output.
Reinforced platens support 42 kg parts, 40% above initial 30 kg spec
CLF reinforced the platens' structural strength to maintain rigidity under high-speed operation and repeated impact from molds weighing tens of tons. A "low injection speed, high holding pressure" strategy was applied through the cooling and molding stage to prevent cavity-pressure loss, which can cause shrinkage or deformation in large-format bulk bins. Although the client's initial specification called for a 30 kg part, CLF configured the machine to support up to 42 kg to accommodate future mold and product-line upgrades.
