San Francisco – October 16, 2026 -- Corgi Insurance has appointed James Kullman, a commercial underwriter with nearly 15 years of experience, as Head of Underwriting, North America.
Kullman moves from Chubb's small and lower middle market unit
Kullman joins from Chubb, where he most recently served as Assistant Vice President and Pacific North Region Underwriting Manager for North American Small and Lower Middle Market. His earlier underwriting roles were at CNA Insurance, The Hartford and Liberty Mutual. There he worked across construction, middle-market accounts and property and casualty insurance.
Corgi tasks Kullman with applying AI to risk selection and compliance
Kullman will lead commercial underwriting across North America. His remit covers using AI to improve risk selection, develop underwriting guidelines, strengthen portfolio management and support regulatory compliance. The role combines traditional underwriting expertise with AI-assisted tools and processes.
Kullman said commercial insurance has relied on largely the same processes for decades. In his view, AI allows underwriters to rethink how risk is evaluated and how quickly quotes are delivered.
Corgi builds a full-stack carrier platform around proprietary underwriting technology
Corgi is developing a full-stack insurance platform that pairs proprietary underwriting technology with in-house claims handling and insurance infrastructure. The company says it aims to help businesses obtain coverage more efficiently while keeping risk selection disciplined and underwriting standards strong.
The hire follows Corgi's expansion of its commercial insurance capabilities. The company is building technology intended to modernize how carriers, brokers and customers interact.
