eCurrency Unveils Offline CBDC Tech After Africa Pilot Success

Dublin – – September 11, 2026 -- eCurrency Mint has completed a successful demonstration of its eOffline Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) solution in Africa, enabling digital currency transactions without internet or mobile network access.

eCurrency extends CBDC infrastructure to offline environments

The eOffline solution allows consumers, merchants, and government agencies to send and receive CBDC through mobile phones, smart cards, and other dedicated hardware from third-party device partners, even when connectivity is unavailable. The system has been tested across multiple use cases and user segments in the demonstration.

CEO ties offline capability to payment system resilience

"Digital currencies must be as accessible and dependable as cash," said Jonathan Dharmapalan, Chief Executive Officer of eCurrency. He said the eOffline solution extends digital currency benefits to remote communities, supports financial inclusion, and strengthens payment systems during network outages or emergencies.

Solution builds on eCurrency's existing DSC3 security architecture

eOffline operates as an open ecosystem compatible with different offline device partners, extending the trust and security protocols of eCurrency's existing CBDC infrastructure to central banks and financial institutions. The company positions the launch as part of its broader push to help central banks issue digital fiat currency as a bearer instrument alongside physical notes and coins.
