Albuquerque, N.M. – September 28, 2026 -- Eden Radioisotopes has secured New Mexico state economic support and locked in Kiewit Nuclear Solutions Co. as its engineering, procurement and construction partner for a planned $1.4 billion medical isotope production facility in Lea County, New Mexico.
New Mexico backs up to $1.4 billion investment through tax incentives
Economic Development New Mexico confirmed the state will support Eden's investment through the Job Training Incentive Program, high-wage and rural job tax credits, and LEDA GRT Share. The project is projected to create 205 jobs statewide and generate more than $1.5 billion in economic impact over 10 years.
Kiewit joins Sargent & Lundy to build North America's first purpose-built isotope reactor
Kiewit Nuclear Solutions Co. has been selected as nuclear EPC partner, while Sargent & Lundy, which has supported the project since its development phase, will continue providing architecture, engineering and regulatory services. The facility is designed to become North America's first purpose-built medical isotope production reactor and processing plant.
More than 40,000 daily U.S. medical procedures depend on isotopes prone to supply disruption
The United States currently relies on aging reactors and overseas producers for the bulk of its medical isotope supply. Because many isotopes decay rapidly and cannot be stockpiled, disruptions in production or transport can quickly affect hospitals and patients relying on diagnostic imaging and targeted cancer treatments.
Reactor technology originates from Sandia National Laboratories research
Eden's reactor design is based on research developed at Sandia National Laboratories, and the company points to New Mexico's universities and technical workforce as a foundation for training nuclear professionals for the project.
NRC decision expected mid-2027, commercial operations targeted for 2030
Eden filed its Construction Permit Application with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in May and anticipates a formal decision in mid-2027. The company expects the Lea County facility to be commercially operational in 2030.
