Redwood City, Calif. – September 07, 2026 -- Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX) unveiled Equinix Fabric One, a managed any-to-any connectivity service built on open specifications co-developed with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud, at the company's inaugural Horizon customer event.
Fabric One automates connectivity across cloud, AI and enterprise networks
Rather than assembling networking component by component, customers specify connectivity requirements through a portal, APIs, automation workflows or natural-language prompts. Equinix Fabric One then orchestrates routing, cloud connectivity, encryption, resiliency and failover as a single managed service.
Service runs on Equinix's ecosystem of over 10,500 interconnected businesses
The platform draws on Equinix's neutral exchange, which includes approximately 3,000 cloud and IT providers, with active deployments from eight of the top 10 AI model providers and nine of the top 10 neoclouds. Equinix built Fabric One on the open source OpenAPI 3.0 Interconnect specification, which AWS and Google Cloud jointly developed to preserve interoperability across distributed AI and multicloud environments.
AWS and Google Cloud back the open interconnect standard as lead partners
"Customers shouldn't have to figure out how to connect across multiple clouds and AI environments on their own," said Robert Kennedy, Vice President, AWS network services, adding that Fabric One "handles the complexity so customers can focus on their AI workloads, not how everything connects." Rob Enns, Vice President of Engineering, Cloud Networking at Google Cloud, said the companies helped establish the open interconnect specification so enterprises no longer manage multicloud networking complexity themselves, pairing it with Google Cloud's Cross-Cloud Network capabilities.
Equinix also introduced Inference Exchange to speed AI infrastructure deployment
Alongside Fabric One, Equinix announced Equinix Inference Exchange at the Horizon event, aimed at accelerating enterprise AI infrastructure deployments. Chris Audie, Chief Product Officer at Equinix, said decades-old, connection-by-connection network building "doesn't scale in a world of distributed AI that demands dynamic, flexible and real-time connectivity."
IDC flags networking automation as a persistent enterprise bottleneck
Andrew Buss, Senior Research Director at IDC, said networking remains heavily dependent on manual design and operations, and that intent-driven approaches can reduce operational complexity and risk while supporting multicloud and AI architecture flexibility. Paul Hager, CEO of Hyundai AutoEver America, said Fabric One "has the potential to accelerate" efforts to meet flexible, scalable connectivity needs as AI workloads expand.
Equinix targets beta rollout this year, general availability in 2027
Equinix Fabric One is expected to enter beta later in 2026, with general availability planned for 2027, initially limited to North America.
