San Antonio – September 11, 2026 -- Flyttr announced plans to build the nation's first large-scale biosecurity research, development and countermeasures platform in San Antonio, Texas, targeting pest threats including disease-spreading mosquitoes and livestock parasites.
Flyttr's first facility will exceed 130,000 square feet and add over 50 jobs
The initial San Antonio facility is anticipated to rapidly add more than 50 R&D, engineering, operations, and support jobs, growing to over 100 as the platform scales. It adds to laboratory facilities Flyttr already operates at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute, a strategic partner since June 2026.
New World screwworm becomes the platform's first target under program FastFly
The platform's initial focus is an accelerated manufacturing initiative called FastFly, designed to add American-made sterile flies into the national response led by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. FastFly also includes modular pest countermeasure manufacturing systems that can be built quickly, relocated, and reconfigured for different pest threats.
DARPA backs the initiative as part of a whole-of-government approach
Flyttr's FastFly program is supported by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency as part of a USDA-led whole-of-government approach. The company describes its global scale-up infrastructure for biological pest solutions as the largest in the world.
