Gallus and HEIDELBERG Announce New Matting Process for Digital Inkjet Printing

Submitted by J. Mikhail on

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – October 6, 2024 – Gallus Group, a subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HEIDELBERG), is about to transform narrow web printing with its latest research breakthrough: Gallus MatteJet technology. The innovation, which will be unveiled at Labelexpo Americas 2024, represents a significant advancement in inkjet printing. It enables a high-quality matte finish that was previously unattainable in digital inkjet printing, opening up the wine label market to the possibilities of inkjet technology for the first time.

"The development of Gallus MatteJet technology marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of inkjet printing, opening up a world of new possibilities and ultimately changing the foundation of what is possible with inkjet technology," commented Dario Urbinati, CEO of the Gallus Group. "By making the matting of digital inkjet accessible, we can introduce a whole new market segment to printers and converters without the need for significant investment in separate offset solutions. This drives profitability and exemplifies our commitment to creating a new era of flexibility that will enable our industry to thrive in the long term."

The new finishing process uses state-of-the-art technologies not previously seen in the labels and packaging industry. It has been developed as part of the company's ongoing research and development at the Gallus Experience Center, which was established last year to drive innovation through collaboration for the long-term success of the entire industry. "Not only is the new MatteJet technology revolutionary in terms of the possibilities it unlocks, but also in terms of its development," continued Urbinati. "We opened the Gallus Experience Center with a vision of a dynamic, collaborative hub of expertise that would drive significant, meaningful change across the industry. Gallus MatteJet is an example and proof of the kind of transformative developments that can be achieved when you combine this vision with real-world insights into today's market needs and, of course, the essential resources and expertise of our parent company HEIDELBERG. MatteJet embodies our long-term mission, bringing the intelligent, connected printing future within reach."

The new MatteJet technology has been designed to integrate with the Gallus Digital Print Unit and is a further extension of Gallus' "System to Compose" concept, which offers maximum compatibility between leading product lines. The "System to Compose" concept allows printers and converters to add, adapt, and remove their Gallus One with additional units to meet changing business needs. Following an overwhelming response at drupa 2024, the concept has been further expanded to include workflow, service, and equipment options. At Labelexpo, Gallus will demonstrate how the System to Compose concept empowers printers to change, adapt, and profit in the long term, with MatteJet now another piece of the puzzle.

The latest version of the Gallus One will make its global trade show debut at this year's Labelexpo. In the newly available printing width of 430 mm, the label printing machine now opens up even more application possibilities than ever before. Visitors will be able to see firsthand the possibilities offered by the recently expanded color space and the integration of Saphira inks in orange and violet to stand out from the competition on the shelf.

In addition to Gallus, HEIDELBERG will also be showcasing various aspects of its label solution offering. HEIDELBERG has recently continued to expand into new business areas and consolidate its leading position as a total solutions provider. Together, they will be presenting a range of innovations in the label sector - including the latest developments in their Screeny® screen printing solutions and Prinect workflow software. Prinect, the linchpin of Gallus' System to Compose, is a critical enabler in the digitization of production and the realization of the smart, connected print shop of the future - live to experience at the Labelexpoо booth (3523).

As a subsidiary, Gallus remains an important building block in the company's growth strategy for the packaging and label market and will continue to play a central role for HEIDELBERG in the future.
