Johannesburg – September 16, 2026 -- Geely Riddara officially launched right-hand-drive versions of its RD6 and RD6 ECON new energy pickups in South Africa on August 28, extending its footprint in the Southern African commercial vehicle market.
Riddara holds 47.9% share of China's new energy pickup market
Riddara has ranked No. 1 in China's new energy pickup segment for four consecutive years since 2023, reaching a 47.9% market share in July 2026. The brand also leads new energy pickup sales in Thailand, Chile and Uruguay.
RD6 delivers 315 kW output and 1,030 kg payload capacity
The four-wheel-drive RD6 produces a maximum power output of 315 kW and 595 N•m of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The vehicle offers a payload capacity of 1,030 kg and a maximum towing capacity of 3 tonnes, supported by an intelligent electric four-wheel-drive system with dedicated modes for snow, mud, off-road terrain and water crossings.
Vehicles tested on 4x4 track at Festival of Motoring
At the launch event, the RD6 and RD6 ECON underwent testing on a 4x4 track featuring steep gradients, side slopes, water crossings and muddy terrain, drawing positive feedback from media and visitors on performance and comfort. Greg Maruszewski, Chief Operating Officer of Geely Auto South Africa, said the launch represents an opportunity to redefine expectations for the South African bakkie segment.
Cross-border expedition to test durability from Johannesburg to Mozambique
Following the launch, Riddara will join a Geely Auto-organized expedition running from Johannesburg to Xai-Xai, Mozambique, traversing plateaus, valleys, grasslands and coastal areas to demonstrate vehicle reliability across varied road conditions.
Riddara vehicles already deployed across mining, construction and agriculture
Riddara units are currently in operational use for plant-protection drone support in China, pest-control services in Thailand, construction projects in Saudi Arabia, ranching operations in Uruguay, and mining activities in Chile, pointing to potential operating-cost advantages of new energy pickups in commercial applications.
