Colorado Springs – September 15, 2026 -- Children's Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs will be renamed Children's Hospital Colorado, Golisano Children's Hospital, Colorado Springs, effective immediately, following a $40 million gift from entrepreneur and philanthropist Tom Golisano.
Gift marks largest philanthropic donation in Children's Colorado history
The $40 million contribution, dedicated exclusively to the Colorado Springs facility, accompanies the hospital's induction into the Golisano Children's Alliance, a national initiative launched in 2025 that coordinates strategic funding across member children's hospitals to expand pediatric services and strengthen collaboration.
Capital plan targets surgical, outpatient and inpatient expansion
Planned capital projects include additional surgical capacity, outpatient and treatment spaces, and inpatient beds designed to reduce wait times and widen access to specialized care across Southern Colorado. Greg Raymond, president of Children's Hospital Colorado, Southern Region, said the gift accelerates the hospital's ability to serve thousands more children annually.
Patient volumes have surged since the hospital's 2019 opening
Children's Colorado opened the Colorado Springs hospital in 2019 as Southern Colorado's first pediatric-only facility, filling a gap in one of the largest U.S. metro areas previously without a dedicated children's hospital. From 2019 to 2025, emergency department visits more than tripled, surgical cases more than doubled, and unique patient visits nearly tripled.
Nearly 70% of patients rely on government-supported insurance
Almost 70 percent of patients treated at the hospital depend on Medicaid, TRICARE or other government-supported coverage, reflecting the facility's role serving military families, rural communities and neighboring states. Golisano said the investment is intended to advance services, integrate new medical technologies and foster multidisciplinary care.
Jena Hausmann, president and CEO of Children's Hospital Colorado, said the gift and Alliance participation will ensure more children receive expert care closer to home.
