Chicago – September 28, 2026 -- GTCR has closed its acquisition of Tactacam, a cellular-connected camera provider serving more than one million subscribers, buying the company from Bertram Capital and its founders in a deal with undisclosed terms.

Founders retain ownership as CEO stays on to lead the business

Jeff Peel, Tactacam's CEO and co-founder, will continue leading the Company and retain significant ownership alongside co-founder Ben Thorud. Peel said the partnership with GTCR will support continued investment in the Reveal and Defend product lines while preserving the company's customer-focused approach.

Tactacam built a subscriber base of over one million through cellular camera platforms

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Billings, Montana, Tactacam pioneered the cellular trail camera category with its Reveal product line, launched in 2020, which lets outdoor enthusiasts view wildlife through real-time feeds via a proprietary mobile app. In 2024, the Company extended the platform into security with Defend, a line of cellular-connected cameras for residential and commercial property monitoring outside Wi-Fi range.

GTCR targets expansion of product development and distribution

David Donnini, Managing Director and Head of Business & Consumer Services at GTCR, said Tactacam's combination of connected cameras, proprietary software and subscription services fits the firm's experience investing in technology-enabled consumer and commercial subscription businesses. Tom Ehrhart, Managing Director at GTCR, said the firm sees an opportunity to build on Defend's expansion through investment in product development and distribution, alongside continued investment in Reveal.

Deal extends GTCR's history in connected-monitoring investments

The investment builds on GTCR's track record in consumer subscription and video-based monitoring businesses, including former investments Protection 1, GreatCall and Lytx, and current portfolio companies Everon, SimpliSafe and Consumer Cellular.

Multiple advisors managed the transaction on both sides

J.P. Morgan Securities LLC, Jefferies LLC and Houlihan Lokey, Inc. served as financial advisors, with Latham & Watkins LLP as legal counsel to Tactacam. UBS Securities LLC acted as financial advisor and Kirkland & Ellis LLP as legal counsel to GTCR.
